Position Summary
 

Looking for a great summer internship experience? Here’s your chance to gain valuable work experience with a leading health care provider!

This internship will begin on 5/27/25 and the duration of the internship program is 12 weeks. Please note that this is a hybrid position; some work will be done in our Portland offices and some remotely. Interns must live in Maine throughout the 12-week program. The pay rate is $20/hr.


Job Description

The Compliance & Legal Affairs team works with all areas of the organization to maintain compliance with Federal and State privacy laws, including but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

The primary focus of this internship is to work on projects related to, but not limited to the following:

  • Reviewing HIPAA Security Rule and/or Current Notice of Proposed Rule Making
  • Reviewing and inventorying Business Associate Agreements
  • Researching and analyzing state privacy laws
  • Monitoring and Auditing of privacy compliance
  • Assisting with other projects to support privacy initiatives

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in privacy compliance within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in two or four-year undergraduate degree program.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products or strong willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrates an interest in privacy, compliance, and the health care industry.
  • Ability to research and synthesize legal and regulatory information.

Skills/Knowledge/Competencies (Behaviors):

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a discreet and professional manner.
  • Comfortable working remotely as part of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to team success.
