Hybrid flexible are roles that can be performed remotely but require some level of onsite work/in-person interactions on a regular basis, require employees to live within a commutable distance and, since business needs vary by position and may change over time, managers will set expectations and flexibility regarding where and when work is performed.

Fully remote are roles that can be performed remotely, require employees to live in approved states and will have purpose-driven in-person interactions on occasion.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

DUTIES

  •  As the employee becomes qualified through acquired experience and training performs work required in the installation, maintenance, repair and removal of switching station and substation equipment; and also performs work required in the maintenance of switching station and substation buildings, structures and grounds, including customer's installations; performs switching through 26kV in accordance with their assigned work.
  • Performs any work associated with transformer oil filtering, including any work incidental to that piece of equipment. Sets circuits up for work and applies tags for others from assigned work location. Remove tags and restore circuits to normal from assigned work location.​

Job Qualifications

Required:

Must meet the Company's "General Requirements"; in addition: 

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have successfully completed the Substation Mechanic's portion of the pre-employment test, except that an employee hired prior to May 1, 1983 who has or obtains a high school diploma or its equivalent does not have to complete the pre-employment test.   
  • Must be able to follow instructions and perform routine operations.  
  • Must have mechanical aptitude.   Must have the ability to learn:  
    • The reading of elementary diagrams of electric circuits.  
    • The basic principles of electricity and the general functions and operations of substation apparatus.  
    • The application of hoists, tackle and equipment ordinarily used in the work.  
    • The identification and use of materials, tools and equipment commonly used in the work.  
  • Must be able to qualify for a basic driver's license with an articulated vehicle endorsement to operate motor vehicles in the State of New Jersey.  
  • Must have the ability to complete satisfactorily the Company courses in Fundamentals of Electricity-Direct current and Alternating Current.     
  • Must be able to become familiar with the function, operation and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment in the switching stations and substations in the area in which he/she works; must have a general knowledge of the purpose and functioning of the transmission and distribution system and of the Company's system of circuit and equipment designation. 
  • Must be able to acquire the ability to diagnose and correct the unusual operating difficulties and faults experienced with electrical and mechanical apparatus and equipment in the switching stations and substations in the area in which he/she works. 
  • Must be able to acquire a good working knowledge of the Substation Maintenance Manual and Substation Operating Manual, including the safety rules and practices set forth in these manuals; must have a thorough working knowledge of the procedures covering the ordering out, tagging and releasing of circuits and equipment. 
  • Must be able to acquire an understanding and be able to learn to apply manufacturer's instructions for the repair, adjustment and maintenance of all types of station equipment. 
  • Must be able to acquire a good working knowledge of the application and safe use of hoists, tackle and other rigging equipment, ordinarily used in this work. 
  • Must be able to learn to perform testing, maintenance and repair work in accordance with operating procedures, safely and without causing interruptions to service. 
  • Must be resourceful and be able to use good judgment in this work; must be capable of good workmanship. 
  • Must have the ability to become proficient in the application of approved methods of artificial respiration.

Training and Courses

Fundamentals of Electricity - Direct current/ Alternating current
