Program Summary
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Sensors Directorate researches and develops sensor and countermeasure technologies for reconnaissance, surveillance, precision engagement and electronic warfare systems. The goal is to provide robust sensors and adaptive countermeasures that guarantee complete freedom of air, space and cyber operations for our forces, and deny these capabilities to our adversaries.
Job Summary
Support the Air Force Laboratory (AFRL) Sensor’s Directorate Integrated Photonic Circuits (IPC) Team to help advance R&D efforts in the field of integrated photonics and microwave photonics. Research the use of optical injection to modify and control the out of laser diodes. Develop novel techniques for use in the frequency down-conversion, spectral control and signal processing of ultra-broadband (to 100+ GHz) electronic signals.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include research and development tasks associated with the analysis of photonics applications
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) – level research of integrated photonics and microwave photonics
- Support designing experiments to demonstrate and explain novel properties of lasers subjected to optical signals
- develop optical techniques for measuring key dynamic parameters which are necessary for characterization of semiconductor lasers
- Provide data analysis, and generation of reports and presentations to convey progress and results
Basic Qualifications
- PhD in Physics
- 25 years experience conducting physics-related research
- Experience developing techniques for measuring key parameters for characterization of semiconductor lasers
- Experience supporting Department of Defense laboratories
- Published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals regarding research into semiconductor lasers
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting AFRL
This position has a flexible workplace setting that is a hybrid remote where candidates can work from home but must be able to attend any/all on-base meetings.
Compensation: $176,800 - $265,200. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, contract affordability and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
