Student Worker – NADP Equipment Technician

Department Overview:
This position will support the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP) at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH). The NADP collects precipitation and other atmospheric samples at over 300 sites across North America. The NADP is seeking a student to work part time in the Network Equipment Depot (NED). The position would focus on equipment maintenance and repair of primarily mechanical motors and precipitation sensors. A strong candidate would be comfortable troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electronic equipment.The position requires effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit and organization. The successful employee must be able to manage time efficiently, pay attention to detail and be able to perform repetitive tasks, but also be able to switch to new tasks efficiently. This position works under general supervision and reports to the NADP Field Operations Supervisor. The position is located at the State Lab of Hygiene building located at 465 Henry Mall on the UW campus.
The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing their daily work. The employee must demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisors, co-workers and all customers and consistently model appropriate behaviors and assist other staff in developing effective relationships. The employee is expected to provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement in a manner that is supportive of the State Laboratory of Hygiene and its mission, use data collection tools as appropriate; use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit; present ideas, carry out assignments, provide information as required and participate in continuous learning through professional development activities

-Enrolled university student-An interest or previous training in Engineering/Atmospheric Science

Position Summary/Job Duties:
-Repair mechanical and electrical equipment under supervision
-Test repaired equipment; document testing results
-Receive returned equipment and track in database software
-Ship repaired and/or new equipment
-Other duties deemed necessary by Supervisor
Physical Demands:
Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds
