Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Zanton lab is seeking a responsible, hard-working undergraduate student to assist with laboratory work and with conducting applied dairy cattle research trials investigating protein nutrition. This position is located on campus in the Dairy Forage Research Center (next to the Vet School). An ideal applicant would excel at independent work, be interested in gaining research lab experience, be able to work with other Undergraduates and Graduate students in the lab, and will be available for at least 10 hours of work per week during the semester. Employment through the summer and school breaks are possible. All laboratory training will be provided. This job requires occasional hands-on work with dairy cattle for sample collection and completing all required RARC training. Training can take place after hiring. We also require a valid driver’s license and a driving record in good standing. This is an hourly position with a salary of $15.00/hour.

Duties include:

-Cleaning Laboratory glassware

-Grinding of dry samples

-Processing biological samples for analysis

-Collection of biological samples

-Assisting with the preparation for research trials

-Assisting with the analysis of biological samples

-General lab duties

 

 

Qualifications:

Lab experience is a plus (ie chem class), Animal handling experience is a plus- both are not necessary as on the job training will occur.

Physical Demands

there is some work that happens in the barns and outside.
