Power TakeOff is seeking a Virtual Strategic Energy Management (vSEM) Coach to work with small and medium-sized businesses across the U.S. to drive energy efficiency and foster a culture of continuous energy improvement.

Position Summary
The vSEM Coach position is central to our utility programs, supporting customers through data-driven coaching, employee engagement, and strategic planning. The vSEM Coach will lead virtual workshops, analyze smart meter data, and guide participants to make persistent operational and behavioral energy-saving changes. This position reports to a Program Manager within Power TakeOff’s Program Delivery team.
Key Responsibilities
The vSEM Coach will deliver high-impact strategic energy management coaching to small- and medium-sized business (SMB) customers through virtual engagements. They will inspire energy-saving actions by providing practical recommendations, facilitating workshops, and promoting employee engagement. The vSEM Coach will measure their success through customers actively participating in SEM activities, demonstrating energy savings through behavioral and operational improvements, and providing positive feedback on engagement and program value.
Customer Engagement and Coaching
- Building strong customer relationships and guiding participants through SEM curriculum.
- Leading virtual workshops, one-on-one coaching sessions, and employee engagement activities.
- Facilitating culture change by integrating SEM practices into business operations.
- Encouraging collaboration across departments at customer sites to drive behavioral change.
Energy Management Planning and Execution
- Conducting baseline assessments of current energy practices.
- Developing energy action plans with site-specific goals and prioritized actions.
- Collaborating with customers to implement low- and no-cost energy-saving measures.
- Collaborating with Power TakeOff’s Technical team to identify and implement low- and no-cost energy savings measures with customers.
- Supporting ongoing goal setting and tracking through regular performance reviews.
Data-Driven Decision Making
- Analyzing interval electricity usage data (15-, 30-, and 60-minute resolution).
- Identifying key drivers of energy use and opportunities for savings.
- Partnering with M&V teams to evaluate and communicate performance results.
- Drafting monthly updates, year-end reports, and success stories.
Internal Collaboration and Program Support
- Contributing to internal continuous improvement efforts and resource development.
- Supporting participant onboarding, engagement tracking, and data integration.
- Collaborating with outreach teams to recruit and onboard new customers.
Key Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in energy efficiency, energy advising, or SEM coaching (preferred)
- Technical knowledge of commercial facility systems (e.g., HVAC, controls, lighting)
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data interpretation
- CEM certification or equivalent knowledge (preferred)
- Proficient skills with Salesforce and other CRM tools
- Exceptional project management skills
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience in adult learning, behavioral engagement, or organizational change
- Comfortable working independently in a virtual environment
- Background in construction, engineering, or building operations a plus
Location and Travel
Power TakeOff is a 100% virtual company with no physical office location. However, many employees are based in two hubs in the areas around Denver, CO and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Residence in one of these two hubs is desired but not required, and relocation assistance will not be provided for the position. This position is eligible for employment in either the United States or Canada.
Travel is not expected for this position. Power TakeOff will cover the associated accommodation and travel expenses for any such travel.
Compensation and Benefits
The total expected salary compensation range for employees residing in the U.S. is between $70,000 and $90,000 USD per year, depending on experience. Power TakeOff maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
Benefits include:
- American employees are eligible for medical insurance including vision and dental, ranging from Bronze to Platinum plans with deductibles as low as $500. Canadian employees are eligible for extended health care benefits
