Position Summary:

Trupanion is looking for a dynamic and highly curious Accounting and Statutory Reporting Manager who will deliver timely and accurate accounting and financial reporting of our Canadian insurance business, ensuring appropriate application of IFRS, US GAAP and OSFI guidelines. They will work closely with other functions (Actuarial, Regulatory, and Finance)and own the coordination of quarterly, annual, and adhoc filings.

The right candidate will have a proven track record of independently balancing multiple tasks and projects with competing priorities and deadlines, and exhibit collaboration and flexibility under pressure. They should also be able to prioritize communications and requests, and help develop, coordinate, and streamline processes.

What you will do:

  • Own P&C reporting to OSFI and provincial regulators for the Trupanion Canada insurance entity;
  • Prepare and/or review the statutory financial statements for the insurance entities;
  • Review standard account reconciliations, analysis and journal entries;
  • Prepare complex account reconciliations;
  • Assist with special technical accounting issues relating to IFRS standards as needed (i.e. IFRS 17, investments, merger & acquisitions, disposition activities, internally generated intangible capitalization, leases and goodwill/intangible impairment analysis);
  • Assist with the implementation and development of accounting policy memorandums under IFRS;
  • Act as key liaison to the external audit function, which includes preparing and acquiring schedules, completing substantive procedures and ensuring requested deliverables from all areas are submitted by the agreed timelines; and
  • Ad hoc project support as required.

Experience you have:

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, at least 3 years in the Property & Casualty industry
