Role Summary
Want to use your State Tax expertise and writing skills to create valuable tax research content and tools for the award-winning Thomson Reuters Checkpoint tax research platform?  

We have an open State Tax Attorney Editor role on our Product/Tax Editorial team which is fully remote or located in Dallas TX, Ann Arbor MI, Minneapolis MN, New York, NY. The role of State Tax Attorney Editor relies on previous state and local tax (SALT) practitioner experience to provide standard state tax know-how resources to support the development and maintenance of information in all media and ensure that published information contains and delivers premium content to tax professionals. 

About the Role
In this opportunity as State Tax Attorney Editor, you will: 

  • Act independently to analyze new state and local tax legislation, agency regulations, judicial decisions, and other official materials and pronouncements on state corporate and personal income taxes, sales and use taxes, franchise taxes, property taxes, and various other taxes.
  • Create original know-how content and update state and local tax resources
  • With limited guidance, use strong drafting and editing skills to write confidently and accurately about state tax to inform and guide customers.
  • Report state tax developments on daily deadlines.
  • Apply state tax knowledge to answer a variety of questions about our content and tax practice through the customer inquiry service.
  • Write and edit content for thought leadership. 
  • Provide expertise and insight in a variety of business supporting functions including training AI to understand complex areas of tax and accounting specialties.

About You
You’re a fit for the role of State Tax Attorney Editor, if you:

  • Are an experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of state tax and at least 3+ years of practical experience in state and local tax issues—i.e., law firm or accounting firm experience.
  • Have expertise and experience to add sophisticated editorial insight and practical guidance.
  • Can write clearly and effectively about tax and related topics and to produce useful, publishable material under deadline pressure.
  • Possess excellent writing and editing skills, including an ability to translate complex tax issues into concise, business English.
  • Can anticipate and interpret customer needs to identify solutions.
  • Are enthusiastic about state tax and about working as part of a team of editors who take pride in providing premium state and local tax content to our subscribers.
