What’s the role?

The individual in this role will lead the ML Enablement Models team to bring the latest innovative MLOps solutions to modeling teams (Search, Ads, Perso, T&S) and enable them to experiment and iterate faster.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager.. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. 

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?

• Project lead, with a strong focus on execution

• Architect and software designer with a proven ability to drive initiative planning/strategy at macro (yearly/quarterly) and tactical (sprint-level milestones) scales.

• Strong technologist with excitement and proven ability to build internet scale, production grade code as well as POCs and investigative work.

• Thought leader and innovator, sets technical direction for the team and builds stakeholder alignment.

• Hands-on software developer experienced with on call and production support; 

• Excited to represent the Models team and ML Enablement organizations in planning, project coordination, technical thought leadership.

• Humble and supportive to mentor the team and raise the technical caliber.

• Comfortable proposing and taking calculated risks

• Execution focused and meticulous attention to detail

• Great interpersonal skills to build working relationships across multiple organizational levels

• Strong and empathetic communicator with ability to influence and motivate

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• Hands-on ML and Data Science background: hands-on modeling and training experience with PyTorch and Tensorflow, NumPy, scikit learn, CUDA (optional)

• Hands-on experience in end2end to ML development processes and MLOps, which includes knowledge with some theoretical foundations of NN implementation, inference, model fine-tuning/training, compute and memory architectures, experience with compute clusters and distributed systems in the cloud.

• Programming languages: Python, Java or Scala, C++ (optional)

• Frameworks: Tensorflow, PyTorch, Spark, Airflow, KFP; 

• Platform: Terraform, GCP and GCP VertexAI, AWS and AWS AI platform 

• Monitoring/Observability, experience with production support tools of internet scale systems.

• (must) Back-end engineering: hands-on experience designing, implementing, deploying and supporting in production of complex systems based on the microservice architecture. Experience with performance, cost analysis and optimization.

• Brings a breadth of knowledge of the MLOps ecosystem: vendors, technologies and algorithms; well-read on the SOTA
