We invest in our people and believe in hiring for high-potential and humble individuals who can rapidly grow their responsibilities as the company scales. Datavant is a distributed, remote-first team, and we empower Datavanters to shape their working environment in a way that suits their needs.

As a Staff Engineer focused on releases, pipelines, and our Github properties at Datavant, you will be pivotal in ensuring the seamless delivery and operation of our healthcare data logistics platform. You’ll be joining the team with a deep knowledge in scalable principles of shipping code in Github.

You will join a newly formed team dedicated to creating a robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure. Our environment, built on principles of containerization, infrastructure as code, and automated pipeline delivery, will be familiar to you. However, Datavant is at a critical maturity juncture, and the DevOps team you help contribute to will set the stage for significant growth in the coming years. With your extensive experience in Kubernetes and Terraform, you will lead efforts to continuously improve our infrastructure. Your focus on developer forward automation will drive key initiatives and help set our best practices.

You’ll bring with you:

  • A background in CI/CD pipelines like Github Actions and Kubernetes tools like Argo, Fleet, or Flux. You understand software build and releases extremely well.
    • You will have managed large Github Organizations and understand the scale factors of having many development teams simultaneously developing, but needing standardization.
  • A strong proficiency in Terraform, with a track record of implementing complex IaC solutions.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, including designing, deploying, and managing production-grade clusters.
  • Deep experience with containerization technologies.
  • Experience managing a fleet of Cloud environments and Kubernetes clusters in a standardized way
  • A mastery in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and configuration management.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams.
  • Familiarity with build and deploy pipelines for serverless architectures and functions-as-a-service (e.g., AWS Lambda).

You will be working on:

  • You will put your hands on code daily to help improve the environment. You should expect in this role to be pulling PRs all day and be very comfortable with committing.
    • If you do not routinely build in Terraform, yaml, and Kubernetes this role will probably not be for you.
  • Helping our development teams to build pipelines based on strong CI/CD footings.
    • You will be working directly on standardized and scalable Github Actions.
  • Helping with the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to facilitate automated testing, deployment, and scaling of applications.
  • Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IAC) using Terraform to automate the provisioning and management of cloud resources.
    • Including helping Datavant to transition legacy deployments and tooling into a standardized model with Terraform.
  • Making our cluster management amazing. Collaborating with development teams and your peers in CloudSec to ensure seamless integration and deployment of applications within Kubernetes environments.
  • Implementing pipeline and release monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure the health and performance of our applications.
  • Ensuring security best practices are adhered to across all infrastructure and application components with your CloudSec peer team.
  • Providing top level troubleshooting and resolution to infrastructure issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
    • Datavant has an KTLO team. Your work is primarily focused on projects to foster greatness. You will be involved in runOps only when you or your team is needed in tier 3 support scenarios where you are the definitive expert.

Bonus points if:

  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Primarily Datadog).
  • Experience with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd).
  • Knowledge of classic configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Knowledge of classic pipeline tools (e.g., Jenkins).
