The Core Infrastructure Team is responsible for managing all infrastructure and databases at BILL. We use tools such as Foglight, DataDog (for Logging, Metrics, and APM), Splunk, and CloudWatch (via Datadog integration) to provide real-time alerts through Slack and PagerDuty. We are strong advocates of Infrastructure as Code, utilizing Terraform and AWS ECS to achieve this.
We are seeking a Staff Database Reliability Engineer with development experience in PostgreSQL and DynamoDB to join our team. You will play a key role in supporting and enhancing our mission-critical database systems to achieve higher levels of performance, availability, backup/recovery, and security. As part of the team, you will collaborate closely with Systems Engineers, Developers, and Architects to design, implement, and scale database engines that power the BILL suite of applications. As a Staff Database Reliability Engineer, you will act as the subject matter expert, managing, optimizing, and ensuring the stability of our PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and cloud-native databases like DynamoDB.
We’d love to chat if you have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years in database administration (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL) with strong skills in optimization, security, and access control, including 3+ years managing databases on AWS.
- Proficient in Python
- Expert in IaC with Terraform and GitLab, applying an SDLC approach to infrastructure.
- Advanced experience with replication tools like GoldenGate or Debezium
- Solid SQL skills and experience in complex query optimization.
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools like Foglight, DataDog, Splunk, and CloudWatch for real-time performance monitoring and issue resolution.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB and MongoDB is desired.
- Major plus AWS certified Database - Specialty and Terraform certification
The estimated salary range for this role is noted below for our San Jose based role. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.
San Jose pay range$175,000—$210,000 USDThe estimated base salary range for this role is noted below for our office location in Draper, UT. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in BILL’s bonus and equity plan. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.
