Position Summary
The Staff Accountant II plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of activities related to the company’s Accounting functions. The role is primarily responsible, under general supervision, for performing corporate accounting processes and providing other accounting and finance support to the Finance department.
Essential Functions
- Process recurring and one-time monthly close tasks such as journal entries, adjustments, reporting, account reconciliations and other basic accounting tasks for corporate departments. Areas include reserves, mortgage servicing rights, loans in foreclosure/REO, intercompany accounts, company health insurance and other medical benefits.
- Research and respond to corporate department heads’ accounting inquiries and take action as necessary. Perform variance analyses and make adjusting entries as needed.
- Prepare and assist with tax-related duties, including state-specific tax requirements and making estimated tax payments.
- Provide accounting information to the Compliance department as requested to meet regulatory requirements.
- Assist with various audits including the annual financial audit and various state and Internal Audit exams.
- Work closely with Accounting Manager on month-end close processes and reporting.
- Process foreclosure and other loan-level transactions in the i5 system and General Ledger on a daily basis. Perform loan-level reconciliations between the two systems.
- Support the Accounting Manager with ensuring accounting policies and procedures are current and accurate.
- Identify areas for process improvements, efficiencies, enhancements and internal controls.
- Use expertise to assist in training and answering questions for less experienced Staff Accountants.
- Prepare miscellaneous reporting for management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Accounting or Finance, along with at least 5 years of relevant accounting experience required; Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with at least 2 years of relevant accounting experience preferred.
- Thorough understanding of accounting including but not limited to: prepaid, accruals, income statement accounts, balance sheet accounts, intercompany accounts, consolidation, reconciliations and general ledger.
- Preferred experience include mortgage industry experience, sales compensation experience, Loan Vision software, advanced MS Excel including pivot tables and V-Lookups. Ability to read and interpret compensation contracts.
- Possess attention to detail; as well as, a quick learner who can adapt to a fast pace environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management.
- Time management, organization, analytical and multi-tasking skills required, with the ability to handle tight deadlines.
- Excellent research and problem-solving skills and ability to propose solutions to problems.
- High level of integrity and ethical behavior.

Requirements
Physical: Work is primarily sedentary; mobility in an office setting.
Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse.
Audio/Visual: Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation. Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.
Environmental: Office environment – no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Compensation at Guild is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to local and federal minimum wage requirements, education, level of experience, and applicant’s geographical location.
