Compensation: $111,000 - $135,000 per year. You are eligible for a Short-Term Incentive Plan with the target at 7.5% of your annual earnings; terms and conditions apply.

Sr. Software Engineer - Remote PST

Ambry Genetics is looking for a results-driven experienced Software Engineer to join our team, responsible for leading the development of our core Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This system is mission-critical to our operations—supporting test ordering, result reporting, lab robotics, and seamless integration across internal and external systems. 

This job is responsible for designing and delivering scalable, high-performance software systems while guiding technical direction across multiple initiatives. This role provides strategic contributions to architecture, team mentorship, and roadmap planning in a regulated, cloud-native healthcare environment. 

Essential Functions

  • Own the design, architecture, and implementation of key LIMS components and services. (previous LIMS Systems experience is not required) 
  • Lead backend and frontend software development efforts using Symfony, PHP, React, and other modern frameworks.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and propose robust solutions at the database and ORM levels.
  • Design, document, and evangelize scalable architecture and future upgrade paths.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, DevOps, Product, and Regulatory teams to ensure delivery of compliant, production-ready features.
  • Mentor junior engineers and establish best practices through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure system reliability and observability through logging, alerting, and test coverage.
  • Write and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including diagrams and specifications.
  • Lead the planning and execution of complex software projects across multiple sprints.
  • Maintain awareness and compliance with SOX and HIPAA regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to scaling practices by participating in Agile and Scaled Agile frameworks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of professional experience in full-stack application development.
  • Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot microservices.
  • Advanced understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience designing scalable solutions using modern front-end technologies like React.
  • Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including ORM best practices.
  • Strong experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration practices.
  • Extensive experience working in an AWS cloud environment.
  • Extensive experience working in an Linux cloud environment
  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor engineers across levels.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with compliance-driven development in healthcare or regulated industries.

Preferred

 

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Expertise in PHP and Symfony or similar backend frameworks (for migration and enhancement purposes) 
  • Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) practices.
  • Prior experience working in HIPAA/SOX-compliant software environments.
  • Contribution to open-source projects or technical publications is a plus.
