The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing a team of engineers and scientists within the Mitral & Tricuspid Implant team. This role is responsible for managing the team that performs image analysis of patient anatomies, develops FEA models for testing of implants, develops predictive clinical models, designs preclinical studies, supports clinical complaints, improves screening methods, and generates boundary conditions for Implant development. This individual will interface closely with other members of the Implant group to develop a cohesive product development strategy and establish best in class competencies.

The Structural Heart and Aortic integrated operating unit offers minimally-invasive approaches to restore proper structure and function of the heart and the aorta. We focus on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves—aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid—and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the body’s largest artery, the aorta. This position will primarily support programs in Mitral and Tricuspid therapy areas.

This position is within the Structural Heart and Aortic (OSH-SHA) operating unit and is not open to remote candidates. The candidate must be local to Minneapolis/St Paul area and must be able to work on-site.

In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Engineering Manager.  This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • The Engineering Manager will work closely with other leaders of the Implant development team to establish the strategy for new Implant development
  • Closely monitors emerging trends and technologies. Incorporates latest technologies and best practices in the team’s PDP workflow
  • Interfaces with customers to understand user needs and requirements.
  • Organizes activities with external partners and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
  • Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies and processes. Interfaces with peers across Medtronic to establish best practices and build competencies
  • Accountability for mentoring, developing and coaching staff on performance expectations and defined objectives, providing leadership to staff ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives to include defining performance goals and targets, conducting performance reviews, and staff 1:1s to guide performance management and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals
  • Provide technical input supporting submissions to regulatory bodies and governmental agencies.
  • Implement and apply human data privacy restrictions

MUST HAVE - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, PLEASE BE SURE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or a technical discipline
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in Engineering and 5 years of managerial experience, OR advanced degree in Engineering, and/or Quality with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5 years of managerial experience

Nice to Have 

  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, or equivalent technical discipline
  • Demonstrated understanding of Imaging Analysis.
  • In depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathology.
  • In depth knowledge of tricuspid valve, mitral valve, and surrounding structures
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac imaging modalities: CT, echo, fluoro
  • Analysis of large datasets
  • Experience with Python and/or MATLAB
  • Experience with physics-based modeling such as CFD or FEA
  • Knowledge of catheter-based technologies  
  • Experience with heart valve development and manufacturing.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably implantable medical devices
  • Knowledge of product development cycles including clinical and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to coach and mentor highly technical engineering team members.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). 

The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.  Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$160,000.00 - $240,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
