About This Role
Biogen is seeking a proven Application Specialist, Cybersecurity Engineer with expertise in Identity and Access Management (IAM), specifically in systems used for directory services, authentication, and authorization. As the Application Specialist, Cybersecurity Engineer for directory services, you will deliver advanced training, mentor super-users, and provide expert-level (L4) technical support to optimize application functionality and resolve complex usage challenges. Your role will place you at the forefront of new functional implementations, ensuring Biogen’s directory services remain secure, compliant, and aligned with IAM best practices.
You will be responsible for end-to-end service delivery, ensuring projects, enhancements, and L4 support meet best-in-class quality standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including business analysts, technical architects, and project managers—to execute upgrades, enhancements, and systems development initiatives.
As a technical expert, you will work with a team of specialized technologists, delivering engineering insights to safeguard Biogen from major cybersecurity incidents. This role reports directly to the Identity Assurance Lead within Biogen’s Cybersecurity organization.
What You’ll Do
• Assess Biogen’s authentication/authorization requirements and target architecture; identify risks/gaps and implement secure access patterns to mitigate them.
• Serve as the security expert for Active Directory, Okta, and PAM platforms, ensuring configurations comply with policies, regulations, and best practices.
• Develop technical artifacts to document Biogen’s identity security architecture and solutions.
• Clearly articulate security risks and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Lead end-to-end design and integration of authentication/authorization solutions from small enhancements to large-scale projects.
• Ensure cybersecurity solutions meet or exceed quality standards and stakeholder expectations.
• Coordinate the efforts of development and operations teams to automate and streamline delivery of secure, scalable solutions.
• Optimize system performance through rigorous testing, monitoring, and deployment practices.
• Deliver solutions in compliance with organizational policies, SOx/GxP/NIST CSF, and budget targets. Align with governance bodies to incorporate cross-functional stakeholder input.

Required Skills
Experience & Leadership
• 10+ years of IT experience
• 5-8 years of hands-on experience with authentication and authorization technologies
• 3-5 years of experience managing/leading teams
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Technical Expertise
• Deep subject matter expertise in Access Management Platforms:
o Microsoft Active Directory
o Azure
o Okta
• Working knowledge of integration methodologies for:
o Human and service accounts
o IT infrastructure and applications
o Development tools and endpoints
Management & Process Skills
• Manage stakeholder relationships
• Execute program management (Agile)
• Define and manage system requirements

Additional Information
The base salary range for this position is $131,000 - $175,000. Base salary offered is determined though an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
