Job Description:

GDIT is hiring a Senior Epidemiologist to provide subject matter expertise for development and support activities of our NEDSS (National Electronic Disease Surveillance System) project with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For this project, we develop, maintain, and support the NBS (NEDSS Base System), a web-based disease surveillance system used by public health jurisdictions to collect and analyze disease occurrence data, as well as to report these data to the CDC.

Team members support key processes in the development and support of the NBS application using an Agile development process. Candidates must be knowledgeable in public health surveillance processes, data analytics, and informatics principles and be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team to address evolving priorities.

This position is remote; however, must be within commuting distance to the GDIT office in Atlanta, GA (Brookhaven) for quarterly meetings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide subject matter expertise on business processes related to public health surveillance, investigation, and analysis activities to inform system development and support
  • Define and document requirements for software development and work closely with development team members to implement and test functionality
  • Create user documentation and training materials and conduct training on configuration and use of system to support public health jurisdictions and CDC
  • Provide technical assistance to support surveillance, investigation, and analysis activities in public health jurisdictions and CDC
  • Assist jurisdictions and CDC with integration of data from multiple data sources, including electronic laboratory reports, electronic case reports, immunization records, etc. using national standards and best practices
  • Identifies and analyzes business needs, conducts requirements gathering, and defines scope and objectives
  • Partners with business process owners and management on strategic initiatives
  • May be responsible for resolution of complex problems escalated by lower-level team members
  • May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals
  • May serve as a team or task lead

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics or health informatics
  • 7+ years of experience in the field of public health or clinical research, preferably related to epidemiology and/or public health surveillance
