A DAY IN THE LIFE:

The Sr. Director, Pharmacy Operations and Excellence will be responsible for developing and scaling an effective and robust pharmacy operations model for Tandem’s portfolio of insulin delivery solutions. This role requires a strategic leader with a consistent track record of building new, highly effective pharmacy operation models, knowledge on how to transition products from the DME (Durable Medical Equipment) channel to pharmacy. The individual will play a critical strategic role, in partnership with market access team, in expanding from a limited distribution network to a comprehensive model that includes pharmacy wholesalers, specialty pharmacies, and a pharmacy hub. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of requirements to operationalize a robust pharmacy distribution model, including regulations, packaging requirements and co-pay assistance solutions.

The role will require a strategic thinker, capable of driving initiatives from inception through scalability, developing a phased approach that ensures seamless growth while minimizing business disruption. This leader will also need to operate as a GM and work closely across functions including Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Distribution, Finance, IT, Procurement, Quality, Regulatory and Customer Care to develop business plans and execute on key initiatives.

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive pharmacy operations strategy for Tandem Products, focusing primarily on transitioning insulin pumps & supplies from the DME channel to pharmacy.
  • Leads the strategic expansion, with market access, from a limited distribution network to a holistic distribution model that includes pharmacy wholesalers, specialty pharmacies, and a pharmacy hub.
  • Coordinates with finance department to deploy an effective OOP solution to drive adoption and retention, aligning with consumers’ willingness to pay.
  • Collaborates to design and deploy a patient onboarding experience that is well-received and adopted by HCPs, aligning with their existing workflows while anticipating future needs.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and establish packaging standards that maintain channel integrity given the differing pricing and reimbursement models of pharmacy and medical benefit channels.
  • Drives customer care and operational excellence, including executing RFPs for effective sourcing - KPIs, SLAs, and performance and monitoring dashboards to ensure service quality once operational.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams (Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Distribution Finance, IT, Customer Care) to ensure alignment and seamless execution of pharmacy initiatives.
  • Utilizes channel trade expertise and a robust network to support the scaling of the distribution model.
  • Ensures a strong understanding of the fee landscape to optimize operational expenses (OpEx) associated with the development and growth of the pharmacy channel.
  • Develops a phased operations growth plan that advances initial access efforts and positions for scalable, sophisticated service models.
  • Supports market access in pursuit of delivering on pull-through strategies.
  • Supports the short-term planning for the department including headcount, budgeting, training, and systems requirements.
  • Participates in the selection, development, performance appraisal, merit recommendation, and promotion of staff.
  • Ensures department staff is properly trained, per designated training plan, before assuming job responsibilities.
  • Develops and manages schedules and performance requirements of staff.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

YOU’RE AWESOME AT:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, pharmacy, healthcare Management, or related field required; MBA or PharmD preferred.
  • 10 plus years of experience in MedTech, Pharma, Biotech and or Pharmacy Operations, with a minimum of 5 years in market access and channel management roles, successfully building pharmacy distribution models
  • Ability to travel by car or airplane independently up to 50% of the time and work after hours if required by travel schedule or business issues.
  • Proven experience in building and expanding pharmacy distribution models for MedTech devices, specifically insulin pumps.
  • Strong understanding of channel trade and a robust network of connections to support scaling initiatives.
  • In-depth knowledge of the regulations, packaging requirements, and dual-channel management (pharmacy and DME) to ensure pricing and reimbursement integrity.
  • Experience with customer care and operations, including executing RFPs, setting KPIs, and managing SLAs.
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience with Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Finance, IT, and Customer Care.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to develop and execute phased growth plans while minimizing disruption.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and flexibility to function in a fast paced and innovative environment.
  • Ability to dive into details, translate and statistically analyze data, and effectively report results through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and identify and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Skilled at effectively communicating department or area issues and results within and across functional areas and conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects or timelines.  Able to gain cooperation of others.
  • Skilled at effectively leading a cooperative team effort and organizing resources to achieve team goals.  Able to make and prioritize process and resource decisions based on overall team needs.

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

    The starting base pay range for this position is $230,000 - $282,200 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
