Senior Director, Global Program Management (Operations)
 

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pharmaceutical Project Manager with deep expertise in Planisware to lead and manage the development, execution, and delivery of key operational projects within the Global Program Management (GPM) department. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive drug development and systems experience to enhance project delivery, increase efficiencies, and drive cross-functional collaboration across Gilead's development programs. The role will focus on optimizing the use of Planisware and contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Process Development & Documentation: Lead the development, alignment, and documentation of business processes aimed at driving efficiencies in project management delivery. Foster enhanced cross-functional collaboration across the GPM department and with external partners to ensure streamlined operations.
  • Planisware Expertise: Serve as the primary Planisware expert within the GPM team, as well as across partner functions. Provide training, guidance, and best practices to project managers and team members on effective use of Planisware for project tracking, resource management, and reporting. Ensure that Planisware is used to its full potential to improve project visibility and tracking.
  • Project & Portfolio Reporting: Partner with Portfolio Strategy & Analytics to evolve and optimize project and portfolio reporting capabilities. Ensure that accurate, real-time project data is available to key stakeholders, enabling effective decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Resource Management Optimization: Collaborate with Resource Management to enhance and streamline resource forecasting capabilities using Planisware. 
  • Leadership & Staff Supervision: Depending on business needs, take responsibility for supervising staff within the GPM department, providing direction, mentorship, and development opportunities to foster a high-performing team.
  • Operational Issue Resolution: Lead or participate in cross-functional working groups within GPM to address and resolve highly complex operational issues. Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing GPM workflows, increasing efficiency, and ensuring successful project delivery.
  • Complex Project Communications: Manage and direct communication for highly complex projects, ensuring that all stakeholders—both internal and external—are fully informed of project activities, milestones, risks, and overall status. Ensure transparent and consistent communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive the continuous improvement of project management processes and tools, leveraging feedback, new technology, and industry best practices to enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the GPM team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 15 years of relevant experience, project management/scientific experience within the pharmaceutical industry OR a MS or MBA and minimal 12 years of relevant experience
  • PhD in a scientific field or a PharmD, DVM or MD degree and minimum 9 years of relevant experience
  • Extensive experience with Planisware as a PPM tool and the implementation of Planisware systems in pharmaceutical settings
  • Experience should include leadership in cross-functional project management activities across the broad spectrum of drug development
  • People leadership experience preferred
  • Extensive understanding of the drug development process and deep understanding of and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards of pharmaceutical project management
  • Proven effective interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to support highly complex multiple activities simultaneously
  • Advanced knowledge and skill with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel and other reporting and tracking tools
  • Must be able to work under minimal and at times no supervision, determine personal work plan, and schedule tasks and activities


 

The salary range for this position is: $216,070.00 - $279,620.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
