Sr. Director, Discovery Shop (Remote)

Leads the development and execution against the enterprise-wide vision, direction and strategies for Discovery Shop including accountability to over $25 million annually. Responsible for profit and loss and ensuring ROI targets are met. Leads a large team including managers and operations staff. Ensures engagement and mobilization of diverse customers, volunteers and staff are prioritized and coordinates to meet established goals and expectations.

Leads critical activities supporting innovation and growth strategies to improve profitability. Represents the Discovery Shop team across the organization including working closely with leadership and proficient internal collaboration. The leader will provide guidance for a wide range of activities including budget monitoring, organizing effective operational planning, internal and external communication, assuring compliance across all functions, coordination of financial procedures and records, oversight of special programs and other tasks as assigned.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and leads implementation of the vision & strategy for Discovery Shops which includes over 60 shops raising over $27 million annually.
  • Manages, coaches, and develops the leadership staff within Discovery Shops.
  • Ensures all responsibilities, authorities and accountability of all direct reports are well-defined and maximized.
  • Monitors financial expenditures and progress against the budgetary plan and takes appropriate measures to meet top line and bottom-line goals ensuring plans to achieve improved margins are achieved.
  • Ensures organizational visibility by joining and participating in strategic discussions and external groups via national resale partnerships and inventory opportunities with companies to drive new revenue opportunities.
  • Responsible for executive decision-making including establishing new and closing existing stores based on financial performance, implementing and maintaining critical systems and adhering to key business practices.  
  • Leads or ensures effective stewardship of key volunteer and customer/donor relationships and recruits leaders who can contribute to the success of the Society.
  • Models and fosters behavior and establishes a culture that values people-first, the staff/volunteer partnership, and is consistent with the ACS values, goals, and cultural competencies.  
  • Collaborates within the Development Pillar as well as with other pillars including Patient Support, Discovery and ACS CAN. 

FORMAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 10+ years of experience and prior multi-store retail or resale business development and management experience including merchandising and sales targets.
  • 10+ years of experience with people-management including proficiency in change management and team building.
  • Experience managing and monitoring profits and loss and taking appropriate measures to meet targets.
  • Knowledge of marketing and branding techniques including sales promotion and advertising
  • Knowledge of retail sales, re-sale, and industry trends.

SPECIAL MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Travel required including evening and weekend work.
  • Ability to lift 20lbs.

The starting rate is $130,000 to $140,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
