Position: Sr. Data Scientist
Location: Remote OK - If living within 31 miles of Tustin, CA or Austin, TX will need to be able to work a hybrid schedule
Compensation: $145K - $160K/yr d.o.e.
Position Summary:
New American Funding is seeking a seasoned Senior Data Scientist with a strong background in the mortgage industry to spearhead our Data Science and AI initiatives. The ideal candidate will lead projects such as Document AI, Lead Scoring, Fraud Detection, and the application of Large Language Models (LLMs) to support Sales and other relevant teams. Your expertise will be pivotal in developing and deploying machine learning models and data pipelines that drive data-driven decision-making and enhance our mortgage origination processes.

- The role will present opportunities to work on large datasets and the ability to use innovative techniques in Artificial Intelligence ranging from various NLP methods, computer vision, and deep learning to enable solutions that will be directly impactful to our customers
- Perform exploratory analysis, construct data pipelines, and build machine learning models end-to-end from POC to deployment for large-scale production systems
- Collect business requirements and make recommendations on machine learning-based solutions
- Monitor, maintain, optimize, and continuously improve the deployed machine learning solutions during day-to-day operations
- Maintain high data quality standards and conduct thorough investigations into any data quality issues
- Design and implement scalable models with continuous monitoring and feedback collection system to enable automatic model training
- Optimize model and data performance in terms of reduced computation time and cost
- Lead analytical efforts to develop scalable and methodologically thorough approaches to testing, forecasting, and other applications of advanced analytics
- The role will work in a dynamic environment working closely with NAF’s leadership team. Work closely with multiple business units to identify areas for further analysis, and supervise the data collection, model development, analysis, implementation, tracking, and reporting ROI

- Extensive experience developing end-to-end machine learning solutions and leading solution diagnosis, including designing & architecting machine learning models that solve business problems & fit into the overall engineering framework, experimentation, model pipeline build, performance optimization, integration, and deployment
- Strong experience in building end-to-end data pipelines, model performance monitoring processes, and continuous model delivery
- Experience in working with clouds
- Proficiency with programming languages such as Python and SQL
- Knowledge and experience working with Snowflake, Databricks is a plus
- Experience in collaborating with difference technical disciplines such as data engineers, solution architects, data analysts and other data scientists
- Strong written, verbal, and visual interpersonal skills to concisely communicate in a way that provides context, offers insights, and minimizes misinterpretation
Desired Education/Experience:
- PhD in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science with 5+ years of related work experience / MS with 5+ years of related work experience
- Professional experience with supervised machine learning techniques (regression and classification)
- Understanding of LLM and generative AI models is a plus.
- Experience in Snowflake and/or Databricks is a plus.
- Solid understanding of SQL and Python, along with some experience with visualization software like Power BI.
- Minimum of 5+ years of related experience, preferably in Financial Services/Mortgage industry
- Passion for creative solutions for turning complex data into impactful insights and a desire to make a substantial impact
