In this key role, you'll play a pivotal role in Pacific Life's continued success by safeguarding the security of our cloud platforms. You'll be responsible for ensuring our systems meet the highest security standards and compliance requirements. Additionally, you'll develop innovative tools and automation to enhance our threat response and incident management capabilities.

As part of our dynamic Cloud Platform Engineering team, you'll collaborate with various teams and divisions to support the ongoing growth and modernization efforts. This will position Pacific Life as a leader within the markets we serve.

 How You’ll Contribute

  • Security Automation & Best Practices: Design and implement automation frameworks, security policies, and best practices for cloud platforms (public & private).
  • Zero-Trust Strategy: Develop a roadmap for an identity-based zero-trust security model. Integrate solutions with enterprise architects to align with zero-trust and defense in depth models.
  • Cloud Security: Work with Cloud Platform Leadership on cloud security strategy, participate in maturity assessments, and ensure security of all cloud assets.
  • Secure Infrastructure as Code: Assess, harden, and develop secure infrastructure as code (IaC) resources for application developers.
  • Agile Workstyle: Prioritize and organize work efforts within an Agile methodology.
  • Security Monitoring & Automation: Integrate security events with SIEM tools. Develop cloud monitoring, dashboards, OKRs/KPIs/KRIs, and implement security automations on cloud-native tools.
  • Policy as Code (PaC): Leverage PaC to automate security and governance controls within the PLCLoud, strengthening our overall security posture.
  • Incident Response & Reporting: Develop response artifacts for security incidents, audits, assessments, and risk findings.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization with stakeholders, support, and engineering teams.
  • Thought Leadership: Become a recognized security expert within the organization. Recommend process, product, and service improvements. Contribute to functional strategy development.


Factors for Success

  • 3+ years of experience in an applicable cloud, infrastructure, or software engineering role.
  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in managing cloud security and/or hardening cloud platforms and resources.
  • BS in Computer Science and/or Engineering, or equivalent experience and certifications (AWS or Azure Security).
  • Experience implementing and managing cloud security tooling such as AWS Security Hub, Microsoft CAS, AWS Inspect, AWS GuardDuty, or similar applicable tools.
  • Ability to communicate complex details in a way that non-technical people can understand.
  • Experience working as part of a Scrum or Agile team.
  • Strong background in network, OS, and API security.
  • Adept in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Node.JS. Experience with bash and PowerShell as well as the command-line interface to at least one major cloud service, preferably AWS CLI.
  • Experience leveraging configuration management platforms such as Ansible, CloudGuard, or others.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders and with experience presenting to non-technical business audiences.
  • Preferred: Experience writing Terraform.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$108,000.00 - $132,000.00
