Sr. Backend Software Engineer
United States - Remote
Raptive is looking for a Senior Backend/Data Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in building and enhancing a fast-growing platform that connects content creators with their audiences.

What you’ll be doing:
- You will focus on backend development and data engineering, building robust systems that directly support our creators in delivering compelling community experiences.
- You will design, develop, and maintain backend features using Ruby on Rails, while also building and optimizing data pipelines to enable efficient data processing and integration across the platform.
- Your work will include implementing ELT workflows with tools like Apache Airflow or similar orchestration technologies to support seamless data ingestion and transformation processes.
- You will conduct code reviews, produce high-quality documentation, and ensure strong test coverage to maintain a reliable codebase.
- Collaboration with product managers, data analysts, and other engineers will be crucial as you work together to address evolving business requirements.
The skills and experience you bring to the job:
- 5+ years of experience in web application development with a strong backend focus
- Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, with an emphasis on scalable backend design and implementation
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines and managing data transformations
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or similar
- Extensive knowledge of relational databases, query optimization, and ORM frameworks
- Familiarity with caching mechanisms such as Redis and memcached
- Solid debugging, data analysis, and performance optimization skills
- Experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Open source community platforms like Discourse, NodeBB or similar
- Working in Docker environments

The base salary range for this position is $150,000-$200,000. The range provided is Raptive’s reasonable estimate of the annualized base compensation for this role. The actual amount may be higher or lower, based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, geographic location, knowledge, skills and abilities. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation that isn’t included in the posted range.
