Position Overview
The Special Programs Review Specialist (SPED) will be responsible for reviewing academic records during the registration process to ensure students are appropriately placed in grade levels based on their prior academic records and transcripts. Additionally, the Special Programs Review Specialist for Special Education will be tasked with following up with parents and school districts, as necessary, to acquire any missing information required for the complete enrollment of students in special programs in a virtual environment across the State of Texas.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Articulate the school's mission and vision to ensure a common understanding among stakeholders.
- Effectively communicate with parents and teachers regarding enrollment requirements, grade level placement, and academic expectations.
- Assist in processing enrollment approvals by reviewing academic records, such as report cards and transcripts, to determine eligibility and proper grade-level placement.
- Monitor daily student enrollments to ensure timely approval of the required records.
- Ensure the academic review process is efficient and meets enrollment criteria.
- Communicate with parents and school districts to obtain any missing academic records needed for enrollment.
- Assist in collecting academic records for final review and approval.
- Maintain confidentiality on all job-related matters.
- Provide information to parents about school policies and procedures.
- Communicate and promote high expectations for student performance and behavior.
- Participate in establishing and maintaining a positive school climate.
- Effective communication with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Understand and support the Stellar Virtual mission and values.
- Assist with State Testing during testing seasons, as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Experience in working with students, parents, and educational agencies.
- Background in student enrollment, academic advising, and related fields.
- Special Education, Special Education Clerk, or Coordinator experience preferred
- Bilingual preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience using internet search engines for research projects and training
- Proficiency in using a student information system and/or other types of databases
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Zoom, Google Workspace, PEIMS, LMS, MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook
- Proficient in reading required documentation for students with IEP, 504, Dyslexia, or GT records
Education & Certification Requirements
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, or a related field.
