Residency Requirements: This position is virtual and strongly prefer residents of Texas. May consider residents of surrounding states (NM, OK, AK or LA). This position could include travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.

The Special Education Teacher Specialist position is responsible for creating and maintaining effective systems for managing assigned academic programs, e.g. advanced placement, academic probation, etc. for the school so that it may operate in a manner that ensures universal achievement for its students. 

This position offers a base salary around $52,000, plus the eligibility of a performance bonus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

  • Create and maintain effective systems for managing assigned academic programs for the school including:
  • Stakeholder communication, e.g. parents, administrators, teachers, external agencies
  • Data collection and tracking
  • Administrative tasks and documentation, including but not limited to scheduling meetings, mailings, document translations, etc.
  • Data disaggregation and analysis
  • Communicate trends with campus leadership and TXSS leadership
  • Make recommendations for next steps
  • Operate from a belief and confidence that each student can achieve at high levels by:
  • Ensuring that each student in the program achieves academic success
  • Partnering with special programs to ensure each student's academic and social needs are met
  • Exercising strong problem-solving skills; exercising both creative and analytical thinking
  • Support in-person state testing.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field of study AND
  • Three (3) years of Special Education teaching experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: Valid Texas Teacher certificate.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Highly proficient/expert in Microsoft Excel; Medium/average proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time
  • Ability to clear required background check

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Familiarity with action planning based on data analysis
  • Experience with instructional coaching
