As mid-level full stack developer at Markel, you will be a critical member of a remote first, cross-functional, self-motivated team working on a variety of projects. Each team member flexes their existing skills while cross-training to become more well-rounded developers. Days can vary – some days we’re independently diving deep into a problem to solve in a legacy codebase, while other days we’re peer-programing with each other to discover the best way to build something brand new. We thrive on learning, teaching, and communication to get to the core of what is required to move our projects forward.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Independently gather and clarify requirements from non-technical stakeholders and contribute to scoping and solutioning.
  • Implementing and owning solutions from the database to the front end and all the services in between.
  • Contribute to peer reviews of the team’s code.
  • Validation and manual testing of work. Automated test development.
  • Communicate with other teams to resolve dependencies.
  • Independently push forward to complete the team’s goals, while quickly leveraging the shared expertise of the team when needed.

We are looking for someone with a majority of the following qualifications:

3 years or more professional experience:

  • Frontend experience: HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Backend experience: .NET, Nodejs, Java or other languages.
  • Database experience: SQL, CosmosDB
  • Apache or other web server experience.

Proficient in:

  • The software development life cycle.
  • Communicating with both technical & non-technical stakeholders.
  • Troubleshooting and debugging.

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary for the Software Engineer position is $80,000 - $100,000 with a 20% bonus potential.
