Experience:             5 years of experience (3 years with a master’s degree)

 

OVERVIEW

Caribou Thunder is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team in supporting the Joint Warning and Reporting Network (JWARN). Your expertise and leadership will contribute to developing a standardized software application intended to provide Nuclear Biological and Chemical warning and reporting, downwind hazard prediction, operations planning, and management capabilities for Joint Forces, from battalion to theater-level command.

REQUIREMENTS

The software engineer will apply scientific, engineering or business objects by writing, modifying, or adapting computer programs in machine level, assembly and third or fourth generation programming languages. Employ object-oriented design principles and paradigms as part of an agile team, using Atlassian tools as part of the Scrum process. Uses standard or conventional approaches, methods, and techniques to define, plan, organize, design, develop, modify, test and integrate database or data processing systems, computer hardware systems and simulation models. Provides support in formulating architectural design, functional specifications, interfaces and documentation of hardware or software systems.

Responsible for segments or phases of broader, more complex projects.

1.    Write, modify, and adapt software programs using a variety of programming languages, including machine-level, assembly, and third- or fourth-generation languages, to meet system and user requirements. Ensure adherence to coding standards and apply object-oriented design principles in the development process.

2.    Actively contribute to the Agile software development lifecycle as part of a Scrum team, using Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence) to manage tasks, track progress, and collaborate with team members on user stories, sprints, and backlog items. Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.

3.    Collaborate in the formulation of software architecture and design, creating functional specifications and defining system interfaces. Work on planning and structuring complex system components, ensuring integration with hardware or other software systems.

4.    Design, develop, and integrate database or data processing systems, employing standard methods and techniques for data management and system optimization. Ensure data integrity and optimize system performance for both storage and retrieval.

5.    Develop and modify simulation models and algorithms for system testing, analysis, or performance evaluation. Ensure that simulation results align with engineering or business objectives and provide insights for system improvement.

6.    Conduct rigorous testing of developed software to identify bugs, performance issues, or compliance gaps. Collaborate with QA teams to ensure systems meet functional and non-functional requirements. Modify code and system components as necessary based on testing feedback.

7.    Prepare and maintain clear and concise documentation, including design documents, system specifications, and implementation guides. Ensure all documentation follows best practices, is consistent with team standards, and is regularly updated to reflect system changes or new features.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

2.    Development languages include but are not limited to Ada, C++, C# and Java.

3.    Experience developing software in an object-oriented language (such as C++, Java, Python, etc.).

4.    Experience with network (sockets) programming and networking in general.

5.    Experience with at least one version control system (Git, CVS, Subversion, etc.).

6.    Excellent written and oral communication skills.

7.    Must be ready to adapt to quickly changing requirements during the development process.

8.    Successful candidates will be highly motivated and team-oriented.

9.    Tool Sets Utilized include JAVA, PostgreSQL, TomCat, Carafe, GeoServer, JIRA, Confluence, Fisheye and Crucible, Git, Maven, Nexus, Bamboo, Selenium, and ATRT.

10. Java: 1 year (Required)
