Overview of the role

Everfox is looking for an experienced software engineer with a track record of developing innovative solutions and extending complex code bases. You will contribute to the design and development of the user experience and end-user applications for our secure browsing solution and help transform cybersecurity for our customers.

You will be involved in writing high-quality code at every level of a wide stack of technologies – ranging from embedded daemons through application frameworks to end-user apps on desktop and mobile platforms. A core aspect of this role is customising/extending complex open-source projects such as the Android Open-Source Project (AOSP) or the Chromium browser, with the focus on delivering a best in class user experience. You will also help improving the CI infrastructure suitable for both testing software behaviour and catching regressions as soon as they appear.

We value strong technical understanding and individual responsibility in all our engineers. As an experienced engineer, you will have the opportunity to provide technical leadership on projects and mentor other software engineers – experience in this area is beneficial but not essential and we will work with you to support your growth in this area as needed.

Key responsibilities

Product software development

  • Developing functionality for the product to meet the key market needs with a focus on delivering reliable, high-quality software solutions.
  • Leading the scoping and design of new software and supporting planning and estimating, including responsibility for estimating individual and team development tasks.
  • Providing review and mentoring for a team of software engineers, steering design choices, solving technical issues and providing guidance on code quality and testing.

Integration, test and sustainment

  • Developing approaches for integrating new functionality into complex 3rd party code bases (AOSP, Chromium) and producing prototypes to de-risk the implementation.
  • Performing the end-to-end integration and test of software components and deploying them onto hardware through both manual testing and automated test development.
  • Interacting with local and remote teams on complex integrations, ensuring that work across multiple lines of development proceeds smoothly.

Continuous improvement and innovation

  • Improving code maintainability, automation and supportability, e.g. code refactoring, code peer-review, unit test development and provision of stable APIs.
  • Suggesting and progressing opportunities for innovation across the product, investigating new technologies and techniques, performing prototyping with the direction of senior leadership, and discovering new opportunities for new design improvements and product features.
  • Recognising the industry that Everfox operates in and appreciating the importance of following our information security policies.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in developing complex software in multiple programming languages:
    • C++ (11+) for embedded platforms, systems software and/or applications
    • Java/Kotlin – Android apps, NDK/JNI
    • Exposure to large-scale codebases – AOSP and/or Chromium development experience highly advantageous
    • Python (for automation and testing)
    • Exposure to developing in a Linux environment
  • Demonstrable strong knowledge and understanding of core computer science concepts such as concurrency, IPC, networking, security, performance and algorithms.
  • Demonstrable design/architecture experience and ability to solve systems-level problems, with multiple complex interactions between components, including planning for failures.
  • Keen interest and an understanding of UI/UX.
  • Continuous Integration – including exposure to Gitlab pipelines and Docker/Kubernetes.
  • A passion for technology, demonstrated through previous project work, professional roles and/or personal projects. You’ll likely enjoy technical challenges & delivering results!
  • Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable, and can cope when thrown in at the deep end.
  • Understands importance of planning, prioritisation and getting work done on schedule
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, can effectively collaborate with others.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is:

£50,359.71-93,080.00 GBP

The actual salary offered may vary within the range based on a candidates' unique experience, locale, and business needs. In addition to a base salary and bonus plans, Everfox offers a generous benefits package including flexible PTO, a 401k match, and contribution to healthcare coverages.
