The Corporate Services team at Premera is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer that is specialized in the Appian Technology Platform. In this role you will transform business processes by understanding product requirements, building automation solutions, and providing technical solutions including application design and execution in the platform.

This is a virtual/telecommuter position, working from home.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, develop, and test applications on the Appian platform.

  • Stay up to date with Appian releases and upgrades.

  • Consult with business partners and IT leaders to identify and understand multi-faceted problems or improvement opportunities and recommend software and system solutions. Apply a system-wide, architectural view of solutions.

  • Analyze high-risk business needs to determine solutions. Design systems, solutions, and applications that address business problems in the most efficient manner. Consider cost elements in design. Apply full range of design techniques including modeling, simulation, proof of concept, prototype, and reference implementation. Design solutions that consider cross system integration and dependencies.

  • Construct and modify code and system set-up based on program specifications using multiple programming languages or system platforms. Apply CICD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment). Constantly improve systems, processes, and effectiveness of solutions. Provide technical leadership to other staff members.

  • Perform testing using unit testing and test automation and document test results. Participate in testing associated with cross-functional project team efforts.

  • Produce appropriate technical or architectural documentation and notifications for changes to production systems or fixes to production problems. Create SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) artifacts.

  • Analyze high-risk production problems, assess alternatives, and implement long-term solutions. Includes performance tuning, technical troubleshooting, debugging, call-rotation, and root cause analysis.

  • Support project initiatives collaborating with the rest of the design team and stakeholders ensuring that development milestones and deadlines are met. Provide feedback on peer designs in an open and collaborative environment. Provide mentoring to less experienced staff. Act as technical and business leader sharing knowledge and expertise with others inside team, as well as with other stakeholders. Proactively contribute to knowledge sharing across the Premera developer community.

  • Assist in the development of IT standards and influence application of best practices in IT standards and procedures. Influence team strategy and contribute significantly to team planning. Drive application of engineering best practices for your team.

  • Stay current in best practices, technology trends, and the organization’s business while mentoring and sharing knowledge gained with others. Maintain expertise in one or more technical areas. Provide advice and mentoring to other engineers.

What you’ll bring: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems. (Required)

  • (8) years of software development experience, knowledge of software development lifecycle, and skills to utilize one or more programming languages. (Required)

  • Possess a good understanding of Appian architecture and be able to make architectural decisions for business process automation.

  • Knowledge of Appian database performance and memory management.

  • Thorough understanding of Process Models, CDTs, and Integrations.

  • Experience with Power Platform and other RPA solutions.

  • Experience with Appian's portals, RPA, and case management studio.

  • Knowledge about architecture best practices.

  • Experience working with cloud solutions like Azure.

  • Experience in healthcare industry or a highly regulated environment.

  • Technical knowledge and experience with specific technical tools used at Premera (i.e., Facets).

  • Previous experience in an agile environment.

  • Exposure to API and service-based technologies.

  • Experience using and creating automated test tools.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.

National Salary Range:

$102,600.00 - $174,400.00

National Plus Salary Range:

$117,000.00 - $198,900.00

*National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
