Software Developer - Space Weather Scientific Software

Description
ERT is seeking a Software Developer with a background in scientific research and development to join a team of researchers and developers supporting the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) in Albuquerque, NM.
The software engineer's primary responsibility includes researching and developing space weather science phenomenology modeling, prediction, and forecast from science algorithms/prototypes into operational software applications, and advancing current R2O practices in methodology, processes, tools, etc. It requires both hands-on coding as well as technical management of interacting with customers. Design, develop, integrate, and maintain space weather science applications and perform full lifecycle software development activities. Experience or background in space weather science is highly desirable, but not required.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in general software engineering development in delivering mission-critical system applications, preferably science-based systems supporting NOAA/NASA/DoD
- Familiarity with AGILE software development practices with the ability to use and maintain make-based build tools and SCM-Git for large-scale and distributed software development
- Experience in developing with C/Fortran/C++, and Python in Linux environments.
- Excellent verbal written communications skills
- Must be self-motivated and adaptable in a dynamic hybrid R&D and production environment.
- Experience in developing Cloud-native applications and helping to mature DevSecOps and Platform Engineering practices
- Ability to rescue/reverse-engineer troubled scientific code
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders and gathering detailed user requirements
Preferred
- Javascript/HTML/CSS web programming experience desired
- Knowledge in conducting and managing system-level testing
- Knowledgeable about information assurance practices in compliance with best practices security policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with research-2-operations (R2O) methodology
- GitOps, and other foundational AWSGovCloud technology
U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a SECRET clearance to enter the government facility.
Education
BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. MS preferred.
Location
Work is located at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM, but can be performed remotely with travel to Kirtland AFB up to 2 times per year up to 2-3 weeks.
Salary
The salary range for this role is approximately $115,000 - 135,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT uses several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the position's scope and expected duties, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
