Overview:    

We're hiring a Software Automation Engineer who will design, develop, and maintain automation playbooks and modules on the Ansible platform! This position resides in the Web Services group of the Application Development division of the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:   

  • Collaborate with software engineers, system administrators, and other IT professionals to automate the delivery of IT Services and the fulfillment of IT administrative tasks using Ansible.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, test, and production environments.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • A BS in a scientific, technical, business, or related field of study and at least five (5) years of aligned experience is required. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience in all phases of software development including requirements gathering and analysis, system design, prototype development, configuration control, testing, software quality assurance, and maintenance.
  • Multiple programming or scripting language experience.
  • Ansible automation technology experience.
  • Advanced Python abilities.
  • Virtualized and containerized platform experience.
  • CI/CD pipeline experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with DevOps, Linux, Windows, virtualization/containerization technologies (VMWare, Docker), networking technologies, and project management.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new programming languages, development platforms, applications, and frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter who can work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within due-dates, and adapt to constantly evolving needs.
