Position SummaryThe Senior Drupal Developer is a full-stack application and web developer working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Team members work across the entire application lifecycle, from development and test to deployment to operations.

This position will focus on development for faculty research projects that use Drupal. Project requirements will vary and will include developing responsive and accessible mobile applications and websites in a multisite environment, mentoring and leading other developers within A&S Computing with respect to data migration, best practices, and designing for minimal technical debt and ease of long-term maintenance. This position will work closely with the Lead Drupal Developer, two Computational Engineers, a Front-end and UX Developer, and will report to the Associate Director, Web & Applications.

This work will be 100% remote and may require being on call on evenings and weekends. It may require working after 5 pm or on weekends.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership activities include providing technical guidance and support to the team and staying updated with the latest web technologies and trends; ensuring adherence to departmental standards; acting as a source of direction, training, and guidance for less experienced Drupal developers; participating in weekly code merge meetings; working with the A&S Computing management team on planning and decision-making to ensure that future technical and business goals in Arts & Sciences can be met.
  • Developing and maintaining custom modules utilizing Drupal API.

  • Interpreting designs and wireframes to evolve the current themes using PHP, HTML, CSS, twig, and JavaScript. This includes programming, testing, debugging, reviewing code, merging, and documenting.

  • Implementing secure coding practices to protect against common vulnerabilities such as SQL injection.

  • Communicating and meeting with internal clients to understand their projects, identifying requirements, and working collaboratively to develop solutions on an agreed-upon timeline.

  • Researching new solutions based on emerging trends and determining feasibility, practicality, and appropriateness of web innovations for use in A&S.

  • Works to understand client business functions and requirements, develops alternate solutions to meet those requirements and may, when necessary, manage a small project team to implement solutions.

  • Independently maintains and enhances complex programs by performing full range of programming, testing and debugging.

  • Provides leadership and training for lower level programmer and analysts.

  • Writes documentation to describe program development, logic, coding and corrections. May write instructions for users to describe installations and operating procedures.

  • Periodically reviews status of assigned tasks and provides supervisor with status report.

  • Develops and maintains third and fourth generation software code for development projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Master’s degree.

  • Five years of experience in Drupal development, including Drupal 8/9.

  • Prior experience in a higher education technology environment.

  • Experience developing and testing for WCAG 2.0 AA web accessibility.

  • Knowledge of current Web standards, design standards, and user experience best practices.

  • Experience working with development, test, staging, and production environments.

  • Ability to prioritize and self-manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated aptitude to adapt to new circumstances and technologies quickly and effectively.

  • Ability to estimate coding efforts.

  • Experience with automated testing and deployment tools such as GitHub Actions.

  • Strong desire to develop new technical knowledge and professional skills on a continual basis and to encourage others on the team in their efforts at professional development.

  • Ability to work extra hours and recognize the need to do so.

  • Ability to adjust to change and demands on time.

  • Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web technologies.

  • Experience setting up and modifying web server configurations in Apache or AWS.

  • Experience with RESTful API, Drupal templates, theming, twig, and yml.

  • A desire to mentor less experienced developers.

  • Experience with front-end frameworks that utilize javascript libraries and frameworks such as jquery.

  • Strong understanding of database design and management with MySQL, MariaDB, or similar databases.

  • Proficiency with Git.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience working on an Agile team.

  • Contributions to open-source projects.

Salary Range$65,900.00 - $112,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
