Senior Valve Engineer
Bristol, United Kingdom
Job Description
Location: Aztec West, Bristol (hybrid working)
Employment Type: Permanent / Full-Time
Are you an experienced valve engineer ready to take on a leadership role in one of the most ambitious nuclear energy projects in the UK? Do you want to play a crucial part in delivering the next generation of low-carbon power? Join us as our next Senior Valves Engineer.
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is at the forefront of nuclear power innovation, responsible for designing and delivering the nuclear island for major projects like Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC).
HPC is the first new nuclear power station in a generation, designed to provide reliable, low-carbon electricity to around six million homes. SZC is set to follow in its footsteps, reinforcing the UK’s commitment to sustainable energy.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a competitive starting salary between £70,000-£80,000 (negotiable depending on experience), bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you’ll be doing
You will be a technical authority overseeing valve contracts across HPC and SZC. Your expertise will ensure that technical requirements are met, configurations are aligned with project progress, and that all relevant stakeholders—including design teams, clients, and suppliers—are working seamlessly together.
You will lead technical meetings, resolving complex design and qualification matters while providing guidance to the team. Your role will involve reviewing technical documentation from contractors, managing contract configurations, and ensuring design changes integrate effectively with interfacing systems.
You will support the client in responding to supplier requests, such as RFIs, IQs, ERs, and NCRs, while identifying and resolving technical open points before they escalate. Reporting key performance indicators to the Contract Engineering Lead, you will also ensure qualification activities align with contract progress and site requirements.
In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will play a crucial role in mentoring and supporting junior Technical Leads, fostering a collaborative learning environment, and promoting a strong nuclear safety culture.
Who you are
To succeed in this role, you’ll need knowledge in mechanical engineering and strong expertise in valve technology, with a background in mechanical, piping, and layout disciplines.
Experience in nuclear mechanical equipment design, manufacturing, and operations is essential, along with an understanding of EPR or general PWR design.
You should have a solid grasp of equipment interfaces, including pipework, supports, fluids, safety cases, systems engineering, civil, and layout.
Exceptional communication skills are key, as you will be working closely with internal and external stakeholders, building strong collaborative relationships. Fluency in English is essential, and while knowledge of French is a plus, it is not required.
Closing date for applications: Thursday 10th April.
