RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Senior Director of User Experience, the Senior User Experience Writer is part of a talented UX team that ensures an effective user experience across all Common App products. Possessing a deep knowledge and expert application of human-centered design and design-thinking methodologies, this individual will lead, develop, and maintain user-friendly, intuitive content across Common App products.

Senior UX writers work collaboratively across the organization with designers, researchers, product managers, and other stakeholders to craft compelling, human-centered content that enhances user experience and engagement. They help drive the tone, language, and content optimization that aligns with both user needs and business objectives, ensuring consistency, clarity, and usability in all deliverables. Our designers are evangelists for the user needs throughout project life cycles.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

This role requires:

  • Candidates must live in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4-6 years of experience in UX writing, content design, or related fields.
  • Highly proficient in human-centered design methodology and application and usability best-practices specifically in content development and editing. .
  • Extensive experience in creating clear, concise, and user-friendly copy for a variety of audiences and experiences.
  • Exceptional communication, active listening, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and collaboratively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in design and documentation tools such as Figma, FigJam, Google Docs, Confluence etc. for creating content and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize the demands of multiple projects, deadlines, and assignments without sacrificing the quality of work.
  • Deep knowledge of and commitment to accessibility best practices, including Section 508 guidelines and WCAG specifications.
  • Ability to put aside personal opinions and biases to understand and achieve actual user needs/desires.
  • Ability to remain level-headed and exercise good judgment when under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively both as an individual contributor and as part of a diverse, virtual team.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience working in higher education or on student-related digital products.
  • Knowledge or experience using generative AI to support UX writing and design processes.
  • A passion for higher education is a plus. 

PAY RANGE

$95,000 - $99,000
