We're a remote-first company, but we believe people should be able to work where they can be most productive. Currently, we can employ in the United States and Canada. We also have offices in Los Angeles and Seattle for those interested in hybrid or full-time office work.
We are looking for a Senior UI Engineer to build the systems and frameworks needed to deliver intuitive, responsive interactions across the player experience. If you care about building systems that allow creative teams to present information to the player in rich, informative ways and quickly iterate on interaction flows, all while maintaining high performance, this role may be for you. As a Senior UI Engineer, you will be responsible for driving our UI technology and workflows. You will collaborate with our UX designer to define the requirements for our UI systems. Using these requirements and the knowledge gained from careful research of the engine’s existing UI technology, you will identify and implement the custom features required to meet our goals. You will work closely with designers, artists, and other engineers to develop APIs and best practices for constructing UI elements. As a part of our engineering team, you’ll also contribute to a culture of collaborative problem-solving, technical excellence, and continuous education and improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the design and art teams to define UI requirements and implement the necessary features.
  • Work with a UX/UI team to develop and improve interaction paradigms.
  • Be an expert on the engine's existing UI systems and use this knowledge to inform visual targets, best practices, and internal development needs.
  • Optimize UI systems to meet performance budgets.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to define UI integrations with other systems.
  • Educate other team members on the proper use of UI components and APIs.
  • While collaborating across departments, you enjoy autonomy over your expertise, and can self drive and prioritize as necessary.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a game engineer focusing on UI/UX systems.
  • Strong C/C++ programming and debugging skills.
  • Strong understanding of common UI framework design patterns.
  • Deep expertise in designing systems for high performance on modern hardware.
  • Unreal Engine experience.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience working on character, camera, and/or controls systems for an action game
