Senior Technical Learning Developer: Routing and Switching Portfolio

How You Will Contribute:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Learning as a Senior Technical Learning Developer, you will play an important role in developing courseware to support new and existing products, often though not exclusively, in conjunction with the Product Division.

  • You will partner with subject matter experts (SMEs), hardware and software developers, and other teams to acquire a deep understanding of products and services, to translate sophisticated information into simple, polished, and engaging content with the right text and illustration mix for target audiences.
  • You will contribute to creating clear and accurate technical content under guidance from the lead writer by applying instructional design knowledge principles, tools, and Ciena processes, products, and technology, with guidance from senior team members.
  • You will address and rectify errors that were identified by team members in technical content, incorporate basic changes to technical content from senior team members, SMEs, and/or reviewer feedback.
  • You will assist in the making of instructional videos, produce content, design program workflow and measure the effectiveness of programs.
  • You will restructure raw content into concise and engaging eLearning modules while coordinating with senior team members and SMEs.
  • You will develop creative content and scripts for videos and engaging storyboards for e-learning modules (WBT (courses, videos, simulations, scenarios), hands-on lab exercises, and instructor-led lecture training (ILTs).  ILTs.

The Must Haves: 

  • Technical/engineering degree, professional certifications, or equivalent hands-on professional experience working with live networks, coupled with a background in instructional design/technical content writing and or technical training delivery (trainer)
  • Experience in Telecommunication, Network Consultant or Network Support Engineering. 
  • Demonstrated, hands-on  understanding of technical L3 routing concepts such as VPN, MPLS, L2/L3 Routing and related Switching protocols.
  • CCNA/CCNP trained/certified.
  • Detailed understanding of learning management systems design, development, and implementation.
  • Proven ability to conceptualize technical-functional content into something creative, engaging, and interesting to target audiences.
  • Experience creating and explaining network topology diagrams created using tools like PowerPoint or Visio
  • A welcoming, collaborative, enthusiastic ability to mentor junior learning developers, and help them mature and iteratively refine their content
  • Attend meetings held in morning Eastern US time zone (EST) multiple days per week
  • Experience using Office 365: Word, PowerPoint
  • Experience using project management tools: Trello

Assets:

  • Knowledge of a variety of eLearning development tools/course authoring tools including Camtasia, Captivate, Storyline, and Visio, and how to review content created using those tools.
  • Project management professional certification (CAPM, PMP)
  • Agile or Scrum certifications (Certified Scrum Master CSM, Agile Certified Practitioner PMI-ACP)
  • Detailed understanding of learning management systems (LMS) design, development, and implementation
  • CCNA/CCNP trained/certified (please provide valid certification ID number with your application)
  • Experience working with Agile-based Scrum teams, associated tools (like Confluence and Jira), and artifacts (epics, stories, and functional specifications)

Pay Range:

 The annual pay range for this position is CAD 103,800 - 165,800

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
