Senior Section 508 Compliance Expert

ICF has an opening for a Senior Section 508 Compliance Expert. As a Section 508 Compliance Expert you will work with our client to test and validate user interfaces against Section 508 accessibility requirements and consult on technical implementations of digital accessibility requirements in client systems. 

Key Responsibilities

  • You will conduct, document, and report on manual and automated testing of all Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products.  Your testing process will include scheduling, monitoring, assigning, auditing, quality control and audit results distribution. You will help educate teams on best practices and supply resources, including a development checklist so teams can proactively create compliant products.  You will be tracking metrics of ICT compliance, obstacles, and achievements. You will have a core understanding of accessibility tools, web development technologies and how they impact the user experience. 

  • Accessibility Testing – You will perform Section 508 compliance testing in accordance with the United States Access Board’s Section 508 of the ICT standards.  Manual and automated testing shall include, but are not limited to, products based in multiple environments to include the following: legacy formats; modern formats (HTML and Java based), web hosted applications, and desktop applications.  Testing shall also be performed for surveys, forms and documents, and other artifacts. You are expected to have experience with JAWS/NVDA - Section 508 and experience/knowledge of CommonLook Office/PDF is a Plus.

  • Web-based training – ICF’s instructional designers develop Web-based training products with Section 508/ADA standards in mind. Following development and before sending any draft deliverables to our clients, ICF also conducts an internal Section 508/ADA quality assurance review by testing training products using screen readers and other types of assistive technologies. 

  • Reporting – You will deliver testing results to our client and will participate in conference calls and follow-up discussions in order to create a road map to improve the accessibility and usability of the client’s IT system. You will be expected to provide Section 508 metrics and reports.

  • Technical Consultation – You will review with customers on the proper methods for implementing Section 508 standards in systems. This will span a variety of web, mobile, hardware and document systems. You will test interfaces and validate that they conform to technical requirements. A desire to perform this validation and experience testing web-based interfaces for compliance with design specifications is critical. Knowledge of DHS Trusted Tester Methodologies is a Plus.

  • Business Process Consultation – You will work with our customers to consult on the process implementation approach for accessibility in the client’s environment.

  • Communicative - You should be able to clearly and effectively communicate with clients in both written and verbal fashion. Written communication should show a high attention to detail. Verbal communication should be formal and indicate the ability to communicate complex topics concisely.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree. 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree.

  • 5+ years of experience with using MS Microsoft Suite, to include Excel

  • 5+ years of experience with Accessibility Tools such as JAWS, Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText and ZoomText Fusion

  • 5+ years of experience with the Section 508 Amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and IT Accessibility Laws and Policies

  • 5+ years of experience with testing ICT products manually for Section 508 Compliance and reporting on defects

  • US Citizenship required by federal contract.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • 508 compliance experience must be for both IT hardware and software.  

  • The 508-compliance expert must have experience in redesigning and/or developing solutions to ensure IT hardware and software compliance if an accessibility problem is detected

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$92,986.00 - $158,076.00
