Senior Resource Planning Consultant -- Remote/Virtual

Description
This is a remote/virtual position. Candidate can be based anywhere within the United States.
This position in Sargent & Lundy’s Consulting group will require you to focus on our resource planning projects and associated production cost modeling activities, such as the following:
- Input data gathering for the models
- Review existing and planned generators cost and performance parameters
- Review and incorporate load forecasts
- Review applicable energy and fuel contracts
- Review RTO/ISO interconnection queue data
- Evaluate applicable transmission network characteristics
- Model development and benchmarking:
- Develop and run production cost models in PLEXOS or PROMOD
- Verify model outputs against historical system data
- Scenario modeling and analysis:
- Evaluate various scenarios of generation and energy storage portfolios
- Perform sensitivity analyses
- Perform NPV and financial analysis
- Perform other electric system planning studies
Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, or finance. Candidates with other type of Bachelor’s degree may be considered if qualifications are strong.
In order to qualify, it is important that you have 7+ years of experience in the energy industry, including one or more of the following:
- 3+ years of experience in production cost modeling with PLEXOS and/or PROMOD
- Analytical and modeling experience in structured power markets in the U.S. (e.g. PJM, MISO, CAISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, ERCOT, SPP)
- General knowledge of various power generation types and their capital costs, operating costs, performance characteristics, and dispatch profiles
- Basic knowledge of PPAs and U.S. power markets – energy, capacity, and ancillary services
- Experience in IRP development and associated modeling is a plus.
- Experience in detailed use case analysis of battery energy storage projects is a plus.
- Experience in forward-looking transmission congestion and generation curtailment analysis is a plus.
- Experience in development of power project financial models is a plus.
Also very important are:
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Strong proficiency in Excel.
- Experience in writing technical reports and proposals.
- Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others.
- Project planning and leadership skills.
