Job Summary
The senior research scientist will serve as a principal investigator on several new clinical trials studies focused on medical cannabis and will oversee, coordinate and manage various aspects of this project. The research scientist will report to Stephen E. Lankenau, Professor of Community Health and Prevention, but will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other faculty at the Dornsife School of Public Health.
Essential Functions
- Supervise project manager and other staff. Oversee the work and training of students.
- Oversee and coordinate various aspects of the clinical trials studies including leading the formulation of research questions, the drafting of scientific papers, the development and implementation of appropriate programming, leading the interpretation and write up of results for presentations and publication and oversee regulatory compliance and incoming data generated by project staff.
- Provide overall scientific guidance and oversight to a range of projects based at the Medical Cannabis Research Center.
- Present results in various venues and leading or co-author papers for publication. Present results at scientific meetings and actively participate in collaborative research seminar meetings.
- Develop new grant proposals and new projects related to cannabis as principal investigator or in collaboration with others and teach courses related to cannabis and other drug use and serve as a resource cannabis and drug policy for the Medical Cannabis Research Center.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- A PhD or Doctorate degree in Public Health (or a related field) or equivalent training in epidemiology, sociology, demography, biostatistics, or another related public health or social science fields and strong quantitative and writing skills is required.
- At least 5 years' experience in the use of complex analytical approaches, including the use of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods analyses to answer specific scientific questions is required.
- At least five years of experience developing/writing manuscripts and/or grant applications is required.

This position is classified as part-time, exempt, and a grade L. Compensation for this grade ranges from Minimum: $ 62,630.00 to Maximum: $ 93,950.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
