About the role

The Regulatory Scientist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements related to our products. This includes conducting regulatory research, preparing submissions, and interfacing with regulatory agencies as necessary. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in regulatory affairs within the [industry sector], excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key responsibilities

•  Scan, monitor, and understand evolving government regulatory initiatives and requirements; work with manager to understand and inform the business on how regulations impact processes and programs; apply industry best practices and sound judgement in daily operations through participation in external conferences and trade associations as required.
•  Regulation expertise: Maintain up-to-date awareness and knowledge of the principles set forth in the food regulations for assigned core technologies, ingredient categories and associated regulatory agencies; actively cross-trains with others to relieve high volume issues and maintain a balance of workload within the department; and communicates information to appropriate personnel. Actively listen and share information and knowledge with others in an effective and timely manner. Ensures that appropriate information is communicated, received, and understood.
•  Understand and interpret regulations, supplying information to address external customer needs, presenting to internal cross-stakeholders within Kerry, and providing guidance in the development of products by accurately maintaining product information databases.
•  Provide proactive technical and regulatory guidance and direction to enable successful development of products and service to internal and external team members and partners; create regulatory strategies to support business growth intentions including managing projects with external consultants as needed.
•  Commercialize compliant products for positioning and labeling; reviews and approves labels and label copy (where applicable), product specifications, product claims and substantiation to support product development and timely commercialization for new and existing products. Review opportunities, participates in relevant stage gate innovation meetings, and ensures early regulatory review of potential claims, certifications, and novel ingredients. Manage changes to products through recipe alterations, cost effectiveness through PIP, and compliance.
•  Organize and evaluate ingredient documentation from suppliers and co-manufacturers and identifies deficiencies and/or clarifications and corrective actions related to the regulatory requirements. Evaluates raw materials, labels, products, claims, advertising, etc., as needed, to make proactive risk-based decisions to enable speed, competitiveness, food safety assessments, and regulatory compliance.
•  Support customers by relationship-building, participation and presentation in customer meetings, Reg2Reg customer interactions, and by supporting sales and requests for information in areas of subject matter expertise /core technology. Serves as a secondary resource for non-routine or confidential information disclosure. Work closely in partnership with our Global Business Services center.
•  System Administration: utilize and master the Kerry systems to review and update specifications and maintain familiarity with product lifecycle management.
•  Cross Functional Acumen: Understand regulatory excellence for multiple parts of the product lifecycle (develop, source, make, plan, deliver, customer), as well as the role of key stakeholders across the business (sales, commercial, supply chain, quality, procurement, RDA). Ensure alignment & knowledge of work products within the globally aligned operating model for Regulatory & Scientific Affairs.
 

Qualifications and skills

Qualifications
•  Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nutrition, or other related science discipline and 3-6 years’ experience (education & work combined) in a similar regulatory role
•  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal including ability to assist leaders with data gathering to prepare executive business presentations, communicate strategies, and briefings for Regulatory and other business partners.
•  Team player, collaborative and positive, with a customer service and business mindset; exceptional time management and organizational skills, self-starter with a high level of detail, initiative, assertiveness, and adaptability
•  Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, as well as understanding of basic project management principles.
 
Working Conditions
•  Office based (but location is flexible)
•  Hybrid work is acceptable for this role, with some days spent in the office, and some working remotely.
Estimated 5% travel may be required to external conferences, or the U.S. headquarters as requested.

Compensation Data

The typical hiring range for this role is $62,906 to $92,755 annually and is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, location, etc.  In addition to your pay, Kerry offers benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and retirement contribution (all benefits and incentives are subject to eligibility requirements.
