About the Role

As a Senior Principal Machine Learning Engineer, you will help build the recommendation systems for a revolutionary new music discovery platform. This role provides a unique opportunity to be part of the founding team, guided by experienced leaders with a proven track record in launching and scaling products. You will play a key role in making critical decisions that will shape the direction and success of our platform. As our team grows, this position will transition into a Team Lead role.

Our product aims to deliver a modern, challenging, and ambitious user experience by seamlessly integrating content delivery, audio playback, machine learning, and recommendation systems. Be a part of transforming music consumption with us.


What You Will Do

  • Build state-of-the-art recommendation systems from the ground up and see them through to production.

  • Serve as the in-house expert on machine learning and recommendation systems.

  • Collaborate closely with app developers and engineers to ensure project success.

  • Make critical early-stage development decisions to ensure long-term success.

  • Operate in a fast-paced, startup-like environment to launch a new business within Harman.

  • Work with a high degree of autonomy and ownership.

  • Actively engage with business and product stakeholders in an iterative, dynamic environment.

What You Need

  • Experience: 15+ years in machine learning engineering.

  • Leadership: Demonstrated engineering leadership as a team lead or staff engineer.

  • Technical Skills: Proven experience building production-grade ML systems using Python.

  • Recommendation Systems: Strong experience in building, measuring, and operating recommendation systems.

  • Generative AI: Familiarity with Generative AI technologies.

  • Recommendation Techniques: Experience with neural recommendation systems, collaborative filtering, and content-based recommendations.

  • Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with GCP, AWS, and Azure.

  • Deployment Technologies: Expertise with Docker, Kubernetes, and Serverless architectures.

  • Backend Architecture: Strong knowledge of databases, caches, event streaming, queues, data warehouses, etc.

  • System Architecture: Experience in architecting, launching, and maintaining machine learning systems in development and production.

What is Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree or higher-level completion in computer science or another related field.

  • Experience deploying machine learning workloads to production

  • Experience with music information retrieval systems

  • Experience working with social networking products or datasets

  • A passion for music and interest in working on products that bring joy to music lovers worldwide.

  • Position is 100% Remote

  • You must be available for meetings and team interaction during typical continental US business hours.

  • Be willing to travel up to 5%, domestically and internationally.  

  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment.

Salary Ranges:

USD 142,500 - USD 209,000
