Senior Platform Engineer

CAN, Ontario - Full Time Remote, Canada

As a part of the Engineering Services organization, the Platform Engineering team specializes in providing a wide range of IT solutions related to infrastructure and middleware products technologies.

How will you contribute:

The primary function of this group is to provide infrastructure support and administration services for critical, web-based, business applications. Collaborate with members of both the Middleware and Infrastructure squads in order to help create, define, and implement component-based solutions on emerging technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, etc.) within the Manulife infrastructure.

Furthermore, to develop, maintain and improve automation and system management solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience working as part of an agile development team. Also experience installing, configuring and/or supporting various system components (preferably application server or web based) in a distributed environment would be a significant asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Support for business application life cycle; including packaging, deployment and support for various test and production environments.

  • Assist in infrastructure design, and solution planning.

  • Provide technical support for initiatives, and projects.

  • Produce and maintain user documentation.

  • Adhere to established implementation procedures and all internal processes.

  • Provides reliable and scalable platform experience to engineers.

  • Investigates new platform solutions to enhance service delivery experience.

  • Resolves persistent platform issues when surfaced by technical support teams.

  • Responsible for the deployment and integration of platform architectures; provides performance improvements through automation and pushes for enhanced reliability to support product development.

  • Builds code to specifications and standards.

  • Collaborate with software engineers, platform engineers, Product Owners, and engineering leadership to uncover difficulties and opportunities to accelerate the delivery of new value through software.

  • Prototype and build new functionality to deliver on key platform objectives.

  • Deliver an exceptional user experience to our engineers, with enhancement on self service and continuous delivery.

Skills and Experience:

  • proven experience with the Installation, configuration, and administration, of IBM WebSphere® or Open Liberty (and related) middleware products.

  • Experience with Java EE middleware products; such as WebSphere® (and related) Red Hat JBoss, Oracle WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, etc

  • Experience with DevOps toolset like Git, Jenkins, pipelines and various scripting technologies including bash and ksh.

  • Can demonstrate proficiency at performing routine tasks from UNIX/Linux command line.

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AIX OS

  • Knowledge of Azure technologies and implementation especially AKS.

Salary range is expected to be between

$94,220.00 CAD - $174,980.00 CAD
