Summary

The Performance Improvement Team is actively recruiting for a Packaging Specialist.  This individual's primary responsibility is to travel and work within a cross functional problem-solving team to proactively implement performance improvements within the production and maintenance operations while ensuring timely and cost-efficient production/distribution of Company products. This position interacts with facility management to identify areas of opportunity to improve production and quality standards in a safe manner and promotes and maintains positive working relationships with the production group.

 

This position is remote but travel to other facilities is required.

 

The salary range for this position is $111,000 - $167,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance).

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Executes package development projects to grow top line volume in support of new product development as a % of revenue goals.  Conducts and leads required lab, pilot plant and plant experimentation.
  • Identifies innovative packaging concepts and opportunities to drive facility business growth.
  • Documents all development work accurately including written documentation of lab work, package showings, and plant trials.
  • Prepares accurate and timely specifications for all products developed.  This includes: materials, formula, processes and finished product with minimal guidance.
  • Prepares accurate and timely specifications for all packaging developed.
  • Responsible for equipment strategic plans/upgrade/automation strategy (corrugated, film and labels).
  • Develops uniform facility packaging inventory and controls processes.
  • Develop and maintain packaging and ingredient usage BOM audit process to improve packaging cost utilization.

 

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors Degree in Business Administration/Management, Engineering, Agriculture or related discipline, plus 7-10 years of related work experience. 

 

The ideal candidate will also:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience working or leading a Packaging department.
  • Be able to travel to other facilities and plants 50% of their time. 
  • Have a proven track record demonstrating ability to get results.
  • Ability to organize multiple protocols/projects and complete on schedule. Able to develop protocols and processes and deploy. 
  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills at both a strategic and functional level. 
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization with excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.

When in a plant environment:

Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.

May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.

May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.

May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.

Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company
