Job Description
You: A paralegal with a penchant for the planet, who loves litigation, conquering complex disputes, and thrives knowing every day brings a new puzzle to solve.
Us: An eleven-person legal team helping North America’s leading energy efficiency consulting firm. CLEAResult Consulting helps people save hundreds of millions on energy bills and removes over 2 million metric tons of CO2 emissions from the plant every year.
The Senior Paralegal position will primarily support our Canadian counsel and U.S.-based litigation and disputes team, while also assisting our other attorneys and legal support staff in the U.S. and Canada with a variety of work including compliance, data security, real estate, and contract management.
Our ideal candidate has an eye for detail, works independently, takes initiative, is tech savvy, service-oriented, self-aware with high “EQ,” and skilled at triaging a constant flow of competing priorities while ensuring everyone stays focused and on track. We need a true team player willing to take on any task to help our legal team, and our energy efficiency experts all over North America, who are changing the way people use energy. The role requires flexibility, endurance, and the ability to perform legal gymnastics, whether the routine requires tracking incoming matters and invoices, creating presentations, performing ESI searches, or drafting investigation memorandums.
CLEAResult is a remote-first workplace, however, the Senior Paralegal should expect to be required to attend regular in-person meetings with their local teammates.
Scope of responsibilities:
Assist with fact-gathering, witness interviews, internal investigations, and discovery
Review and revise litigation documents such as demand letters, discovery requests and responses, pleadings, motions, and contracts
Supervise collection and review of large amounts of material generated by litigation, using both internal systems as well as e-discovery platforms
Supervise fact-finding, data collection, and initial analysis used to prepare statements and arguments
Organize and maintain discovery files, prepare deposition materials, exhibit summaries, and materials for experts
Prepare, review, and revise a wide range of employment-related documents, including but not limited to corporate employment policies, employee hiring, and separation materials
Partner with human resource professionals regarding employment disputes and investigations
Research local, state, and national employment, health, and safety laws
Lead business processes such as insurance and small claims recovery
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Required attributes:
7-10+ years of paralegal experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Expert legal research and court docket navigation skills
Experience in implementing and using legal technology tools
Significant experience with witness interviews, creating investigation reports, deposition summaries, and case analysis
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize, and time management skills
Ability to communicate complex information across all levels of the organization
Expertise with file management, indexes, templating, and document management systems
Fluency with common software/apps, specifically Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
Experience with Logikcull, Everlaw, Relativity, or comparable e-discovery software
Meet the requirements for a public notary (and virtual certification), if not currently a notary
Sound work ethic and commitment to confidentiality and attention to detail
An enthusiastic, cheerful attitude, a love for learning, and a passion for anything not related to work
Preferred attributes:
Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification
Familiarity with SharePoint, Workday, DocuSign, Power BI, or Salesforce
Experience in insurance recovery
Knowledge of the energy efficiency industry
Customer service experience in any industry
