Position Summary
The Central Design & Estimating organization is responsible for Engineering, Design and Estimating of PG&E Electric Distribution systems. Candidates will lead a highly skilled team which owns, develops and maintains electric distribution design and estimating tools and systems. The team is also responsible for strategic direction on electric design technologies and acts as subject matter experts for the 800+ electric estimators.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $147,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $199,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $251,000.00
- Minimum Base Salary (California) $140,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (California) $189,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (California) $238,000.00
Responsibilities
Leadership
• Provide guidance and leadership to drive improved outcomes of ED Estimating technology delivery
• Develop, manage, and set priorities of action items within a work plan.
• Provide insight to leaders on innovative technologies and enterprise level data in a strategic manner.
• Maintain awareness of current capabilities and best practices in industry that can support PG&E’s business and operational needs
• Develop and drive clear product vision, strategy, and roadmaps
• Hold employees accountable for developing a high performing culture where all team members represent PG&E virtues of trustworthy, empathetic, curious, tenacious, nimble, owners
• Maintain an enjoyable environment, keep moral high within the department
• Coach employees and up-level the practice via thought leadership
• Facilitate workshops, design sessions and discussions with stakeholders, users, and development teams to drive action and results[LD1]
• Represents PG&E as lead of electric distribution estimating tools with software developers and other utilities to encourage innovation and cross industry benefits
• Serve as liaison between Estimating, Service Planning, Remote Sensing, IT, ED Standards, Mapping, and ED GIS.
Product Delivery
• Leads development of multi-year technology roadmap of software tools, related data systems, and generative AI for electric distribution design, engineering, cost estimating, New Business/WRO billing, creation of joint pole billing documents, and associated business rule information.
• Leads team responsible for providing field data (imagery, LiDAR, etc.) to ED estimating to incorporate into designs.
• Leads development of business cases (benefits, costs, risks) for purpose of acquiring new technology, data systems, and remote sensing data.
• Leads development and implementation of multi-year road map for software tools and related data systems related to electric distribution estimating
• Leads team on creation of innovative datasets for the purpose of transitioning business logic into computational logic for the purpose of automating downstream data requirements (example, need to create a dataset and method for automating “Prior MLX” value that input by estimators)
Business Intelligence
• Create and manage dashboards related to tool use, metrics, and provision of business knowledge held within tool related data systems
Data Quality/Governance
• Fund, implement, and manage resources for purpose of improving and maintaining data quality.
• Implement data governance workflows.
Qualifications
Minimum:
• Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Engineering
• 10 years of relevant experience in engineering design, project management and/or construction related experience.
• Utility industry experience
Desired:
• Professional Engineering License
• 3 Years experience in a leadership role
