Senior Manager, Brand Market Research

Remote in the U.S.

The NerdWallet Brand Marketing team is seeking a Senior Market Research Manager to help us track, analyze, and improve our target consumers' perceptions and usage of NerdWallet.  The Brand Marketing team’s charter is to get everyone to know, trust & love NerdWallet as the brand that helps you make smart financial decisions. Market Research exists to unlock consumers' insights that will allow us to accelerate business objectives. We are looking for someone who is equal parts consumer-obsessed, creative & quantitative - who can triangulate complex data sets and translate research findings into actionable insights that inspire and motivate new ways of thinking that improves work across the organization. This is truly a cross-functional role that will partner with our marketing & product teams to better understand the consumer, their current perceptions of NerdWallet, and the barriers standing in their way of using us in the future.  

You are a strategic thinker who excels at synthesizing data and inputs into meaningful and actionable insights. You are able to demonstrate your strong analytic capabilities by identifying patterns, insights, and new ideas and you know what is going to move the needle the most. You have strong quantitative analysis skills and proficiency in statistics. You are skilled at framing problems and accurately scoping out research approaches. You have a proven track record of leveraging creative methods to answer difficult questions. You are comfortable with ambiguity and balancing multiple priorities/needs. You are proficient in moderating 1:1 interviews and are passionate about understanding customers and get excited about solving their problems. You are comfortable operating autonomously and running your own function but have prior management experience and can manage relationships with contractors and vendors to support market research work. 

Where you can make an impact: 

  • Champion the voice of the consumer, serve as an advocate for market research and the power of deeply understanding of the target audience 
  • Design and execute innovative quantitative and qualitative research to support decision-making, shape brand strategy, product and campaign development, including: 
    • Ongoing evaluation of brand health metrics
    • Brand advertising effectiveness 
    • Effectiveness of new marketing initiatives for the companies
    • Understanding motivations / barriers to consumer perception & usage intent 
  • Develop & execute research learning agendas and measurement approaches in partnership with the  Brand team to evaluate effectiveness of work in the market. 
  • Oversee the full life-cycle of a research project, including managing contractors and research vendors
  • Distill complex data into clear and actionable insights and communicate those insights across the company in a way that inspires new ways of thinking, drives impact in the organization.  
  • Regularly triangulate and communicate customer insights, market and business trends across our organization, so the company is working off the same foundational understanding of our consumer, company and category. 
  • Spot and propose opportunities to bring deeper insights to the team around our target audience or the competitive landscape
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends related to market and media research methodologies, recommending the right mix of existing tools & custom research necessary to round out our learning agendas 

Your experience:

  • 8-10 years of experience in quantitative and qualitative brand research
  • Experience working in a consumer-facing /brand-led organization 
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects with tight timelines  
  • Experience balancing creativity with technical excellence 
  • Experience driving change and partnering effectively with key marketing and product stakeholders 
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, helping solve complex problems with creative solutions 
  • Experience synthesizing insights/learnings from multiple sources to build holistic and compelling recommendations that lead to business impact
  • Proven communication and presentation skills with a track record of delivering concise, executive level synthesis to influence business decisions and strategies
  • Experience with tools such as Brandwatch, YouGov, MRI, and Mintel

Base pay offered may vary within the posted range based on several factors, including but not limited to education, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The pay range for this role is $132,000—$240,000 USD Apply
