I. Job Summary
The Senior Automation Manager plays a critical role in overseeing and managing automation systems and technologies within a North American region. This position typically requires a combination of technical expertise, management skills, and strategic planning to ensure the effective operation and optimization of automated processes and security defense programs.
In this role, the manager will collaborate with multiple departments, including leadership, digital, and operations, to lead automation activities across all lines of business within the company and ensure that automation and controls engineering activities align with the company's objectives. Responsibilities include managing operational technology processes, technology specifications, process modifications, asset management programs, and ensuring the adoption of cyber defense measures.
This position will require up to 35% travel and requires the employee resides in eastern time based on business need
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Oversight of all Industrial Controls for the eastern tier of North America.
- The role includes developing and improving new processes for Industrial Automation used in landfills, wastewater treatment plants, bio-gas extraction systems, renewable energy plants, recycling technology, telematics, fleet and organics processing.
- Deploy Corporate initiatives for Industrial Automation and Industrial cybersecurity programs
- Drive the adoption of emerging OT technologies to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
- Lead the development and maintenance of comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Industrial Automation
- Development of Best Management Practices for Operational Technology and SCADA asset management.
- Ensure the implementation and adherence to cybersecurity best practices within the OT environment.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive asset management strategy for all connected devices within the North American region.
- Identify and implement opportunities to optimize system performance, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with IT and other relevant departments to ensure effective coordination of cybersecurity efforts across the organization.
- Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure effective integration of OT and IT security measures.
- Stay informed about emerging cyber threats and vulnerabilities and implement appropriate countermeasures
- Oversee the planning and execution of corporate automation projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as engineering, operations, and maintenance, to ensure successful project implementation
- The position will drive the company’s process optimization expertise and implementation of corporate site automation standard procedures
- Development and maintain of Industrial Automation training programs
- Work in a team environment to develop corporate specifications for industrial control systems, instrumentation and other hardware.
- Support market area automation managers and oversees & manage third party contractors
- Project management and prepare costs estimates and approval for Capital investment planning.
- Maintain accurate records and files according to quality standard.
- Stay informed on the latest cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities affecting OT environments.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in SCADA technology and industry best practices.
- Ensure 100% environmental compliance in all work activities and follow environmental rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
- Must be able to oversee and direct third-party contractors during field activities.
- Must be able to coordinate field activities between site teams and contractors.
- Review contractor invoices and ensure timely submission.
IV. Qualifications Must live and work in US.
A. Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant experience.
Experience: Five (5) years of SCADA system (including instrument/equipment selection, installation, PLC programming, etc.) field installation and troubleshooting support (in addition to education requirement).
Preferred Experience: Prior experience with industrial control systems, Operational Technology (OT) and have cybersecurity knowledge of SCADA.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Must be able to work at a fast past and resolve issues independently.
- Project engineering management, industrial control wiring, industrial equipment, and process design knowledge is necessary.
- PID Loop tuning
- Analyzing data and presenting findings in written reports
- Understanding of computer networking
- Relay Logic
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC control systems (including, Allen Bradley - Ladder Logic, Direct Soft, and others)
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Clear understanding of PID & electrical control panel drawings

The expected base pay range for this position across the U.S. is $119,200 - $181,585. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
