In Summary...

Mazzetti has an opportunity for a Senior Lighting Designer with advanced knowledge in both basic and complex interior and exterior lighting designs. This individual should have expertise in lighting controls and the integration of lighting with electrical systems. With some guidance, the role involves leading and developing lighting solutions, performing lighting calculations, load and energy analyses, creating renderings, presentation materials, and preparing construction drawings. The Senior Lighting Designer will also coordinate efforts within the Mazzetti Lighting Studio and across other disciplines, as well as participate in construction observation activities, which may require travel.


The candidate will manage projects, handling internal and external correspondence, administrative tasks, deadlines, and billing. The role also includes task delegation, ensuring deadlines are met, and managing deliverables, as well as contributing to business development regionally and nationally.


Your Tasks Will Involve

  • Leading and developing both basic and complex interior and exterior lighting designs
  • Applying expertise in lighting controls and integrating lighting with electrical systems
  • Performing lighting calculations, load and energy analyses
  • Creating renderings, presentation materials, and preparing construction drawings
  • Coordinating work within the Mazzetti Lighting Studio and across other disciplines
  • Participating in construction observation activities, with potential travel to project sites
  • Managing projects, including correspondence with internal teams, clients, and external colleagues
  • Handling administrative tasks, meeting deadlines, and managing billing
  • Delegating tasks to ensure deadlines are met and deliverables are completed
  • Contributing to business development on both a regional and national level
  • Working on a variety of lighting projects, including healthcare, hospitality, civic, commercial, and residential designs
  • Incorporating sustainable lighting design principles into all projects

Work Location

This is a hybrid position, ideally based in Los Angeles or Atlanta, though other U.S. locations will be considered. The role is full-time (remote or hybrid), with occasional invitations to in-person events for mentoring and social activities, depending on the candidate’s proximity to an office or event location.


Travel Requirements

This position requires travel of 15% or less.

Expertise And Abilities You Will Contribute

Required:

  • 10+ years of lighting design experience (3+ as Senior Designer) in the industry, including project management and task delegation.
  • Ability to review/develop and edit lighting CSI specifications.
  • Dynamic, people-focused individual with strong conversational skills and a personable approach to build positive relationships and foster collaboration
  • Autodesk proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
  • Daylighting analysis LightStanza (preferred), AGI32, ClimateStudio, IESVE or similar software.
  • Photometric modeling proficiency in AGI32, LightStanza, Dialux 
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized, self-starter and independent work ethic. 

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor’s, or master's degree in Lighting Design, engineering specifically architectural or electrical engineering with a lighting emphasis, theatrical lighting, interior design, or architecture with an emphasis of coursework in lighting, or combination of three additional years of relevant work experience, if less than bachelor’s degree.
  • Able to obtain or pursue a lighting design organization professional membership, IES or IALD for example but not limited to these organizations.
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
