Job Description

NREL's Human Resources department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Human Resources business partner. NREL’s strategic HR business partners function as key advisors and change agents.  As a Senior Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), you will deliver, broker, or support appropriate products and services aligned to both NREL’s and the Directorate’s people strategies, ensuring high impact HR representation.  You will help business leaders understand and address the people implications of business decisions.  You will ensure that client strategies are supported with the HR programs needed to provide NREL with a competitive advantage.  

The Senior HRBP develops and implements integrated solutions related to all HR matters supporting all lines of business and upper management.  The position serves as a trusted advisor proactively engaging with all levels of management and staff to influence and positively impact the organization by identifying resources and formulating and presenting actionable recommendations for leadership consideration. This position reports directly into the Chief Human Resources Officer.

This position provides leaders with coaching, consultation and guidance regarding effective management of people, structure, organization effectiveness and workforce planning. The position formulates strategic partnerships across the Laboratory and within HR to deliver value-added services to management and employees which align to the business objectives of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with all levels of line management to provide HR guidance.
  • Work credibly and effectively with clients to support organizational strategies.
  • Create solutions that drive impact and change.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, and disciplinary actions).
  • Partner with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Administer guidance and recommendations on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Develop collaborative relationships to create opportunities to positively impact business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify issues and reveal root causes through effective questioning with a view to being solution oriented.
  • Analyze and assess data to create insights to help guide decisions trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs and policies.
  • In matters of behavior or conduct, lead fact finding and root cause analysis, ensuring effective resolution.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance and partners with the compliance and legal department as needed/required.

Basic QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education and experience; Or, Master's Degree in Human Resources or related and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education and experience; Or, PhD in Human Resources or related and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience

* Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.

Additional Required Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational development, diversity and inclusion, performance management, as well as a working knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
  • This position requires an onsite hybrid work arrangement and is not open to remote applicants.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within in a Federal government contractor environment and working within Federal government contractor guidelines is highly preferred.
  • Appropriate SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR certification.
  • Minimum of nine years of practical, relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)Job Profile: Professional IV / Annual Salary Range: $95,500 - $171,900

NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
