Are you ready to take on a pivotal leadership role that shapes the future of Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) within a global organisation? Serco is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior HSEQ Manager to join our UK Defence division. This is a unique opportunity to lead and innovate in a role that not only ensures compliance but also drives strategic growth and operational excellence.

 

This is a critical role, offering both strategic and tactical support to the Director of HSEQ, designed to enhance the operational value of our HSEQ initiatives while actively contributing to the broader strategic direction of our UK Defence portfolio. This includes aligning HSEQ strategies with broader business objectives and ensuring that our HSEQ initiatives are effectively integrated into our long-term plans. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues and customers to understand their needs, transform relationships, and address any challenges collaboratively. This role also involves providing support to the UK Defence Academy situated in Swindon two days per week. Whilst weekly travel to site isn’t always required, flexibility is essential in this role and travel to Swindon and other UK sites will be expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Support the development and execution of HSEQ strategies tailored to our Defence capabilities, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, driving excellence in audit coordination and compliance documentation.
  • Operational Oversight: Provide hands-on support during critical operations, ensuring HSEQ considerations are integrated seamlessly into our daily functions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, acting as a key liaison to ensure HSEQ objectives are met.
  • Incident Management: Lead comprehensive investigations into incidents, driving root cause analysis and the implementation of preventive measures.
  • Training and Development: Deliver impactful training programs to operational colleagues and spearhead the development and implementation of tailored training initiatives at the Business Unit or divisional level.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of innovation and efficiency across all HSEQ processes, adopting cutting-edge technologies and best practices.
  • Performance Assurance: Ensure the implementation of robust HSEQ performance monitoring mechanisms, conducting regular reviews and implementing corrective actions as necessary to align with organisational goals, objectives and regulatory requirements.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven Expertise: Extensive experience in HSEQ management, with a strong track record of delivering safety culture change programs and auditing.
  • Behavioural Safety and Culture Change: Experience in leading and delivering transformative behavioural safety culture change programmes, and/or working with internal partners to successfully deliver these programmes.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in data analysis techniques and tools to derive actionable insights from HSEQ performance data.
  • Compliance Savvy: In-depth knowledge of ISO standards (9001/45001/14001) and other relevant HSEQ requirements.
  • Problem Solver: Strong analytical skills to identify trends and root causes, coupled with the ability to develop and implement effective solutions.
  • Innovative Mindset: A passion for continuous improvement, with the ability to inspire and drive innovation across teams.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • IOSH/IIRSM membership or equivalent.
  • Accident Investigation training.
  • Lead Auditor qualification.
