THE JOB: Senior Health Economist
The starting salary range falls within the minimum to mid-point of the salary range.
Starting Salary Range: $102,720 - $128,400
The Senior Health Economist plays a key role in supporting the Director of Economics, by providing a wide range of qualitative and quantitative policy research and analytical services. The role focuses on areas such as physician compensation, negotiations support, agreement implementation, and medical economics. The Senior Health Economist will coordinate and conduct detailed research to inform decision-making processes, including providing technical and analytical support for negotiations, costing information, and funding priorities. In addition, the role involves managing key projects like the Specialist Disparity Fund (SDF) adjudication, supporting the Physician Overhead Committee, and coordinating activities related to fee allocation and physician overhead studies. The Senior Health Economist will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other medical associations, government entities, and consultants, to share knowledge, produce research, and develop recommendations that influence policy and practice.
In this position, the Senior Health Economist will also serve as the staff lead for the Allocation Support Committee (ASC), overseeing activities such as maintaining the Fee Allocation Process, engaging with section heads for feedback, and managing requests for proposals (RFP) related to studies and consultations. The role requires excellent project management skills to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, manage external contracts, and ensure compliance with processes and budgets. Additionally, the Senior Health Economist will play a critical role in committees like the Advisory Committee on Diagnostic Facilities (ACDF) and the Provincial MOCAP Review Committee, providing technical support, maintaining data collection tools, and facilitating communications with both internal teams and external stakeholders. This position demands strong analytical skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a comprehensive understanding of the health economics field to support the organization’s strategic goals and initiatives.

WHAT YOU BRING
- Master’s Degree in Economics or an equivalent Master’s Degree or PhD in a closely related field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics) and minimum of five years of related work experience in all of the following:
- Conducting and leading major and complex economic studies and research projects.
- Linear and non-linear statistical modelling using R or Python.
- Communicating (writing, presentations) with senior leaders and providing expert advice, interpretations and recommendations based on statistical analysis.
- Satisfying client or stakeholder requests in a high-volume work analytical environment.
- Data extraction (SQL writing) using modern cloud-based programs such as Tableau, Tableau Prep, cloud-based data platforms (i.e. Snowflake).
- Knowledge of the provincial health care system and related economic issues an asset.
- Ability to define problems, organize and implement efficient solutions by applying multi-disciplinary theories and techniques.
- Ability to manage and handle a large workload and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience leading committees.
